i'm now supposed to start taking Augmentin and Biaxin. along with that she also told me i tested low for carnitine and perscribed me caritor.

has anyone else tested low for carnitine? is there any other way to get carnitine without a supplement?

also what are experiences with augmentina dn biaxin?

Well...

Looks like you are a card carrying member of Lyme Net now.

Welcome!

Glad you got the test results back and have some answers.

Tree and others should be by later to help you with links and some good information.

The drugs are often prescribed for folks with Lyme. I took those but in combo with other meds and it was rough on me.

Do watch your yeast so it doesn't take over... ok?

As for the carnitine...

I am not familiar with it.. so I looked it up. Here is a site that might help? It seems pretty detailed.

Are you a vegetarian? It seems those diets are low in carnitine.

Hope the info helps!

I don't know much about carnitine. There are food sources for it (meat, dairy, etc.), as well prescription sources and OTC sources, but for different kinds of carnitine. The Linus Pauling Institute has some good info.

I didn't do well with Augmentin, but was fine on biaxin without the augmentin as long as I took it with food. Don't forget to deal with coinfections, and take probiotics and do everything you can to prevent/address yeast overgrowth.

thanks tincup and minoucat:

i looked at the site and also did some other searching of my own. decided to look at my nourisishing traditions book by sally fallon. she also pointed out that vegetarian diets don't supply carnitine. it's a protien you get from read meat.

i guess i'll try the supplements to see if it makes me less fatigued.

today i sarted on the biaxin and augmentin. it scares me to take so much antibioitics, as i never take any unless it's a must. hopefully i won't have a bad experience with the augmentin.

thanks for the tips.
