Wondering if anyone has experienced an increase in symptoms or symtomology started from a trauma such as a car accident.

I burned out a tick on my leg 25 years ago. I now realize this was not the wisest way to remove a tick. No symptoms until 11 yeasr later, then an optic neuritis, I was given predisone for several weeks. Afterward taking predisone I lost my eyesight for a couple of days and and started slurring in my speach. The specialists ruled out MS although finding small white plaques in the brain located in the white matter. In the following years I have had lots of bladder and prostate infections but no headaches and fatigue.

8 years later I was full of energy then car accident 1. Six months later car accident 2. (both other drivers fault). Fatigue, huge cognitive problems, headaches, muscle aches soon changed to muliple system complaints. Changing sometimes from day to day. I often say, if I don't like the symptom I am experiencing, just wait a few days, they will change.

Then the 3rd accident, yes the other driver was at fault here too. I realize many people with lyme develop a bullseye on there body. I must be the first to have developed a bullseye on their car.

Today I will see my first LLMD. I am scared. Have seen 12 specialists who have suggested everything from lupus, MS, post traumatic stress, to we aren't sure. No one brought up lyme.

Can lyme literally remain dormant, possible exhibiting the odd symptom, then following a trauma like a car accident be triggered?

Does anyone know of MVA cases where this may have happened and if so can you point me towards where I would locate info about the case, or the lawyer? It's been 5 years since the first accident. Nothing has been settled basically because doctors just don't know what this is. My symptoms just keep getting worse.

I exhibit 25 different lyme symptoms. I have two masters degrees. This week cognitively, I could not remember my middle name. I had to ask my wife for it.

Big goof...so sorry!

Yes, any kind of trauma can bring lyme out.

Decemeber 2003, was running and fell on ice and broke my humeral neck. After that fall everything started coming out full blown and a lyme dx Aug. 2004.

I have had over the last several years lots of symptoms that I now know point to lyme.

Symptoms can vary from person to person so it's hard to say who will have what symptom.

I'm not sure why but a minor car accident is what exacerbated my symptons.

I'm actually glad that I had the accident or I might be still going on with an array of odd symptoms that the local Doc dismissed.

The onslaught of symptoms as you describe led me to explore further and here I am!!

Hope you feel better

What type of injuries did you have? Whiplash, if that's part of your picture, can be a nightmare. I've read a theory that it can disrupt the blood-brain barrier, and lead to pathogens entering the brain and stimulating an immune response. It may not be Lyme, but another bacteria or parasite.

Trauma and PTSD by themselves are serious. If you're continuing to drive, you may be re-traumatizing yourself, especially after getting hit 3 times. Hope you can find some good help.

Acute trauma/stress leads to a brief spike in adrenaline. In contrast, anything much longer than a "boo!" leads to a more prolonged spike in cortisol.

Cortisol leads to all sorts of biochemical changes including a diminution of immune system functioning. Thus, if you've got an infection of any type being held in check by your immune system, add chronic stress/trauma (cortisol) to the broth and it is more probable that the infection will emerge.

I do have to say your comment on the "bullseye" was hilarious! Thanks for the chuckle.
