I am having a terrible time with yeast. LLMD prescribed 4 tabs 4x/day. The problem is I start getting sick about an hour or so after taking it (heart fluttering and fatigue).

I tried the starving it out. I lost 6 lbs in 4 days the first time and 5 lbs in 3 days the second. I am low body weight to start with. Plus I felt like I was starving to death.

I have tried olive leaf extract and am taking 2 tablets of probiotics at night.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What is it that you are taking for yeast?

You will never be able to starve it out. It's a waste of time and body weight to even try to do that. It will just make you weaker.

Are you being strict with your diet and not eating high carb and high glycemic foods? This will not get rid of yeast while you are on abx, but it will keep it under control when the right kind and enough probiotics are taken too.

Something that can help keep yeast under control without being hard on your systenm is Candex. It is an enzyme that eats up yeast naturally. Not toxic at all.

I have also heard that olive leaf should not be taken at the same time as abx because it can interfere with it. A good one is D lenolate by East Park. Theyb vary quite a bit in effectiveness.

I beg to differ you can starve it out with acidophilis, start taking acidophilis 3to4 at a time in the morning and 12 noon and 4pm and before bed.

I had a raging case and in about three days it should start getting better also eat yogurt without fruit if you can stomach it.

Get the 500 million group in acidophilis.

Also difulcan can help.
Dont take acidophilis any closer than 2hrs before or after abx.

A medication (abx. vacation) and serious attention to the normal flora...with a GOOD well balanced probiotic in loading doses might help.

There are is something that you might want to consider:
http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/substances_view/1,1525,811,00.html

This looks awfully powerful...perhaps too powerful. Not sure I'd try it, but very interesting.

Olive leaf extract is very strong. I don't have lyme and I couldn't tolerate it.

A lot of the initial weight loss for a strict anti-yeast diet is water. That's probably why you had such extreme loss so quickly. I assume you were starving it with a strict diet and not no food. No food is never good when we need to keep our immune sysem working.

There is disagreement on whether or not nuts are ok on the diet. But, they definitely prevent the weight loss if you nibble on them all day. Large amounts of meat also help increase calories to reduce the weight loss. Enjoy some steak (in moderation), and turkey and chicken.

Aniek is right about the nuts and the water loss. The nuts will help you keep the weight on, but avoid peanuts [mold and pain issues], and eat cashews sparingly.

Read carefully this method of eliminating yeast. You only have to follow it strictly for about 2-3 wks. Then just concentrate on eating proteins and vegetables. [vegetables low on the glycemic index] ... and corn and potatoes don't count! These are starches.

Hello,

If you are taking 4 nystatin pills 4 times a day, THAT would kill me. I know this is a dosage that can work VERY well for some, but most that I know could not tolerate that much that soon.

I started off with one a day, then when the die-off of the candida stopped, went up to 2 a day, then eventually up to 3 a day.
Each of my pills is 500,000 IU's.

I only ever took 3 a day while I am on antibiotics. I tried higher dosages and it did not matter for me, kinda made me sick, but it was not herxing.

I then read in
a candida book that some MD's will give a patient 16 tablets a day if a lower dosage has failed to get them well.

A typical candida dosage for nysatatin is.... 2 tablets 4 times a day. You stay at this dosage for a few months or so, then taper down to 4 a day, then 2 a day and so on. This is for someone without lyme, and they are not on antibiotics.
You eventually wean yourself off the nystatin, but this is when you are NOT
on long term antibiotics like all of us.

If you are on antibiotics, my thinking would be to get the candida to a minimal level with the nystatin, then go to a low dose nystatin to control the candida. SOME dont need to take nystatin, but some do.

I have used many antifungals, and for me, the nystatin is the best. I also use the oil of oregano, 6 drops a day. This seems to help me stay strong while on antibitoics.

I used the olive leaf lately, tried it, and does not compare for me like the nystatin.
I cannot stand the smell/taste of the olive leaf, just turns my stomach. I can totally handle the nystatin, even suck the tablets sometimes, the taste does not make me that sick, and I am not repulsed by it like I am the olive leaf. I think the olive leaf just dose not agree with me. I dont even get any dieoff from it now either.

I get lots of candida dieoff from the nystatin sometimes, then bounce back.

Start off with one a day, on an empty stomach, and wait at least 2 hours to eat.

I wait sometimes 8 hours to eat after taking nystatin because I find this works WONDERS for the candida overgrowth in the lower intestinal track. The hard tablet releases slowly into the intestinal track, and there is NO food to interefere with this, it hits! the yeast overgrowth on the intestinal wall, and wow! sure helps me.

I take the nystatin at 9 am, then eat around 5pm and take antibiotics, then do another dose of antibiotics later. I dont always do this, just when candida is not good.

Trish

jmardis....If you are talking about Dr C's protocol....read the instructions again. I know when I started on his protocol, he said to begin with the diet first.

Second week, you take 2 nystatin pills 4 times a day. Third week, 4 nystatin 4 times daily. Fourth week, 4 pills once a day.

You don't up the dosage if you can't handle it. If two pills knock you flat, you back off, or stay the same....don't increase until you can handle that dosage.

Diet is essential! If you skip that part, you're in for a rough ride.

*******************************
YEAST/CANDIDA CONTROL
*******************************

My husband and I have been battling systemic yeast, and these are the supplements that have worked for us. I've put them in the order of effectiveness, so you might want to work your way down the list, adding supplements every couple of days, until the overgrowth is controlled. (Nystatin has never worked well for me.)

I personally keep the yeast at bay with probiotics, Super Food, and grapefruit seed extract. If I eat too much sugary or starchy food, I have to temporarily add the Garlinase. You can get all these products, except for the Pharmanex ones, at a health food store, or online at Web Vitamins.

Probiotics EVERY meal.
Each day we mix several brands, hoping the good bacteria will win.

A. Jarro-Dophilus EPS 60C from Jarrow (Our favorite**)
It doesn't need to be refrigerated, a plus if you have to go to work. http://www.webvitamins.com/?AID=1629565&PID=1620614

B. ProBio PCC Pharmanex (for variety) http://www.pharmanexusa.com/cgi-bin/pxweb/product/en/ns_productDetail.jsp?content_id=01003520&spons_ID=US0668509

C. A few spoonfuls of live-culture, no-sugar yogurt with meals, to reach the upper GI tract.

Perfect Food Super Greens from Garden of Life
Recently, we've added this green powder, "The Perfect Food" from the Garden of Life, which is equivalent to eating 5-10 servings of vegetables. The thing that's great about it is that it seems to suppress GI tract yeast overgrowth, as well as providing immunity-boosting antioxidants. http://www.webvitamins.com/?AID=1629565&PID=1620614

Liquid Grapefruit Seed Extract
About 6 drops in a glass of water, once a day, or more, if thrush on the tongue gets out of hand. I use Nutribiotic GSE, but I think any brand will do.

Garlinase** 4000 from Enzymatic Therapy
Amazing at flushing out the fungus/yeast. Works MUCH better than Nystatin for us. Beware of a big die-off (i.e. diarrhea) when you first take it. Take one before bed, more if you have an outbreak. Garlic thins the blood, so make sure you're not mixing it with other blood thinners. This is processed so it doesn't give you stinky breath. http://www.webvitamins.com/?AID=1629565&PID=1620614

Yeast Fighters from TwinLab
Includes Lactobacillus, Garlic Bulb Extract, Caprylic Acid, and various other herbs. http://www.webvitamins.com/?AID=1629565&PID=1620614

Saccharomyces boulardii from Allergy Research Group
A friendly strain of yeast that hopefully will win the battle against Candida. http://www.webvitamins.com/?AID=1629565&PID=1620614

Treepatrol,
I am taking DOS-Plus (Acidophilis,Bifidus, FOS) 500 million but was only taking at night before bed. I will increase immediately.

I am on nystatin, but start having problems about an hour after taking it. Do you think it is a bad reaction to 4 tabs or a herx because of the extreme over growth?. I figured bad reaction to meds since it was so quick and stop taking last night.

Thanks so much for your help.

The LLMD didn't specify. I researched it and have med background. I have numbness in my checks (especially left side), white tongue, and crave sweets like crazy.

Nystatin is VERY benign. I say it's the yeast overgrowth. Diet, diet, diet is the big thing here.

Oops! I goofed this one. I did the first week. Then started with the second. Did fine for two days and then jumped to four pills. Forgot all about the protocal (lyme brain).

I read them twice like he said. I guess the second time was with lyme brain.

Thanks alot for restoring my memory. I need all the help I can get.

When yeast is bad and you dump something in there that kills them fast it can play kaos on your digestive tract. And some yeasts are able to withstand drugs that target them. A lot of Different strains of them kick up the natural good flora but always take at least two hrs after or before I ate the stuff like candy. It really helped me acidophilis's

The diet can be very beneficial here for candida! Im on it but to be honest, I am taking it slowly. My dr has me taking Fungal Defense from Garden of Life. I will stop taking that after today (only do it for 14 days) and then moving onto Primal Defense from Garden of Life. I hope you are able to get this under control.

Thanks you all again for all the info and ideas. Treepatrol your great. I went back and read my protocal sheet. I was taking too much nystatin. I cut it in half. But I still get so fatigued after taking it.

Even so, I have so much yeast (tongue solid white). I wonder if there is a market for it. It might help me pay for all the natural suppliments I'm taking. Ha Ha

I can see kriskraft knows there way around the health food store--All good thing to take
and will help.--No carb diet--very important.
Disolve nystatin tablets in your mouth.
To get most effect.
Nystatin powder works Much better-- but it
is harder to find and Must be refridgerated.
But is well woth the hassell if you can
get it.
Yeast die off will make you feel very bad-
but you can get better--but this will be a long term thing-- For a experiment I
mixed some yeast - sugar and water in a
jar and let the yeast do its thing.
I left in the jar for 6 months.
I could see no activty. Then I poured in
one spoon full of sugar into the water.
In less than a minute I could see little
co2 bubbles coming up. I wished I had tried
mixing nyatatin in it to see what happened.
Try the experiment your self-- It opened
my eyes. -- Jay --

The reason I said that is that I think I did the same thing! That was 4 1/2 yrs ago, so I don't really remember how I messed it up, but I know how easy it is to get confused when the Lyme and yeast are raging in your body!

I understand the powdered Nystatin is rather nasty, so I hope you can find another way to get the thrush taken care of. Re-read the protocol again, the answer may be there.
