Does anyone have breathing problems with lyme?

When I say "problems" I mean shortness of breath to the point where I can not speak. It feels like a 200lb weight is attached to my stomach, back is so painful and stiff I can't breath in and out comfortably.

The bizzare part about it is that it comes and goes. Sometimes I'm fine and other days I could seriously pass out from lack of oxygen.

I have had this for a long time. I don't have asthma, I don't believe it's caused by anxiety because it also happens when I am very relaxed. I have been tested for everything and doctors can not tell me what is wrong.

I used feel normal before I was tested (+)for lyme. Anyone else feel like this? I'd like to hear your opinions.

I get this from time to time and its really annoying, especially when I try to talk to people and my last word of each sentence is forced and out of breath sounding. Like you said sometimes it comes with anxiety and sometimes for no reason at all. I can deal with the rest of the symptoms but this one is horrible.

One thing I forgot to mention is I dont really have a relief idea to try to help you. One time it seemed that drinking massive amounts of water helped a little bit but I cant say that its a secure help. I hope you feel better.

Babesiosis usually causes shortness of breath.
Maybe you should get tested for it again or just ask your doc to try to treat it and see how you respond to it. Babesia too is not always easy to detect so it is worth a try. Kathi

The abx that helped that, for me, was ketek, 400mg/2x day.

Mycoplasma is a big time lung pathogen, not just the pneumoniae strain. I would get tested for that too.

I have lyme and mycoplasma I get very bad breathing problems. I got tested for asthma and it came back that I have RAD (respitory airway disease), I couldn't tell you what that means. I also have Tietze Disease, it is athritis in my chest, it causes severe chest pains, at times I feel like I am having a heart attack, it feel like there is someone sitting on my chest. My pulmonologist said the only thing to do is take Advil, it helps relieve some of the pressure, but not all. Best of luck!!

Yes I get this too from time to time. It is very annoying and there seems to be no reason for it as with many Lyme symptoms. Sorry I haven't found anything to help yet. Hope some of the other ideas help you.

Yup, it eventually went away with standard antibiotic treatment.

Have you ever tested for sleep apnea? I have that and just had the CPAP mask overnight hospital stay.

Just bought the mask & hose to use on my frend's deceased husband's unit. It didn't go well; going in today to see what I did wrong hooking it up.

I've not tested for co-infections. Betty G.

it's the babesia for me! Sometimes I just lay in bed trying to convince myself the air is reaching my lungs, but it sure doesn't feel that way! I don't gasp for air, but sometimes I get scared and start to hyeprventilate a little, and pass out. I am still learning how to stay calm when it happens. I haven't been treated for babesia because I just recently tested positive, and I am pregnant. I would definately get that checked out! best of luck

Lymeherx - you just described most of the symptoms of babesia - vertigo, burning in feet and breathing difficulties. Have you been tested?

I've had asthma for years, that actually has gotten better in recent years. I've had some wheezing ever since starting Ketek. But beyond the first few weeks, it's been very slight.

Yes. Four times.

Lyme could cause this. The toxin issue.
I have multile chemical sensitivities also.

These PVC vinyl blinds on the whole wall are driving me nuts!!!

Im starting to get a migrane and bad vertigo and postnasal drip.

This week Im eating nothing but protein.
Im gonna see how it goes. I have heard this diet is good for clearing the toxins and bringing things back in balance. Especially the sinuses where I need it.

I posted already here but I also thought that maybe, just maybe the breathlessness could be yeast as well..

Just a thought..

Lyme and Yeast go hand in hand..

and many times identical..

Shortness of breath was one of the first symptoms I noticed when this hit hard and fast.

I am not sure we are having the same symptoms.

Sometimes I feel it is weakness with my breathing muscles.

I was treated for asthma 3 times when docs were looking for answers. All 3 times, it made things worse.

I have been battling this symptom among many others for over 3 years now. I have been on abx for 2 years now.

I currently am being treated for Babs.

Yes. It comes and goes. Mostly comes. But, it is great when it goes. Sunday, I was able to walk to the local coffee shop and back. The coffee shop is about 5 minutes away.

It was great, but rare that I can do this.

I too have wondered about sleep apnea. Don't know much about it yet. But, I do usually wake up feeling worse than when I went to bed.

And it takes me a while before I can move the body and mind.

When this first hit, I noticed that I would get totally exhausted just from trying to take a shower. So much so, that I would have to lie down before I could dry off and get dressed.

I also noticed that I could not empty the dishwasher without this same heavy breathing and total exhaustion.

I am fine if I am lying down and haven't over done it. If I have over done it, it is very difficult for me to breath and takes a while of laying down before breathing is normal again.

Those times are scary.

I also get a dry cough when I try to push it.

I'm experiencing breathing problems right now...and have posted some questions on different thread: Anyone need oxygen tank?...which should really be: Anyone USE osygen tank?

Please let me know. I'm wondering if that will help & if I should push my doc to write the script & get one sent over here pronto! Not going back to hospital !
