Ive been on Doxy for about 7months and Ive seen pretty good progress (eventhough Im in the middle of a herx) Even since September of 2004 when I returned to college I've been doing tons better. Just wondering what kind of abx, time frame, and how much progress you feel you've made with how long you think you've had LD.

1 year now, after relapsing from the year previous.

Much better now. BIG improvement seen with Ketek.

Also use malarone and artiminisin because of babesia. For the babesia, adding the artininisin tot he Malarone has helped a lot.

Finally, adding magnesium lactate has also helped to a certain degree (despite my earlier thoughts to the contrary)

I think that Doxy works only for about half of the Lyme patients.
How much of it do you take?
The patients who improved took 400 to 600 mg per day.
I will likely consider it for myself too.

Currently I am on Amoxicillin 12 g/day with some success.

I have been on Doxi for about 2 years.
First 8 months 200mg a day--After 1 month
I did start to get better. I was not taking
the doxi as carefully as needed--
After about 5 months I started getting
sicker again-
--So after much reasurch I raised my
dose to 500-600 a day.
I got much better . Today I am still good
and getting better but slowly. Some things I have learned are--you have to take your dose
--On Time-- If I miss taking meds for
24 hours the lyme comes back Hard and
I lose much progress. This has happened
to me 2 times -get extria meds-
Doxi has to stay at a constant level in body
to work well. Very important.
I bought a timer
to remind me to Take My Pill .
Read the directions carefuly-
dont take with vitiams- dairy-antacid ect.
It makes a big diffrence. If you stomic
can handle it -dont with take food- a
few crackers are ok but only 2-3 .
The Worst side effect for me is Light
sensitivity-I have to completely cover
up in clothing-big hat-gloves-sun screen
-even with all this on a sunny day
my face is on fire in 45 minutes.
Very tinder for many days.
Longer light exposure I get blisters
Very painful - skin peals- Its is not
like a regular sun burn. I work for a
TV station and even the studio lights
burn me.-- Reflected light is almost as
bad as direct sun light. Even when I was
taking 200mg a day the light sentivity
was just as bad so increasing dose did
not effect this much.
Looking back--I have gotten Much better--
Muscile and Joint pain is much less -
Night sweats mostly gone-- candida alittle
better -energy up a little-
I havent layed in bed moning in constant
pain --except when I missed taking my
meds over extened time. Over all
Doxi has been good for me--except
for the light thing.---Jay---

Interesting post Groovy. I tried to take Doxy with little food in the past and I ended up in the fetal position on the floor for 3 hours. Now I take it AFTER I eat. I also get heartburn all the time too. I dont know which is causing it, the lyme or the meds. I stopped taking my Doxy for a week and now I got a herx I just cant shake and its been almost 2 weeks. I know for most thats nothing but I really got slammed because of it after having a good 3 months with almost not noticing any real problems. Thanks for the reply.

Back in 2001 I was on several abx's progressing to Flagyl.

Now I'm on Zithromax M-F and Flagyl Fri-Sun. I'm also on Armour, Zoloft, Plaquenil and give myself 3cc injections of B-12 twice a week.

I feel alot better mentally. My eyesite that was decreasing since my surgery in Nov. 04 is back to normal.

Everyone is different.

I never stayed on one abx more than three months because the benefits wore off after that.

For 2 years I switched every 3 months.

The healing happens at a snail's pace, but it happens.

I'm not that far into treatment so far only about eight months.

Mepron and Biaxin since July. Started to feel a bit stronger in end of November/December and early January.

The most noticeable difference from Biaxin/Mepron is that I have not hardly had ANY toxic spinal migraines that I used to get pretty frequently before. On good days I also have more stamina. But, on bad days much the same fatigue and no stamina wise as before.

Started Bicillin end of December, and I do think it was definitely helping. Have just had a scary experience with one injection and having a little break but hope to be back on next week and continue in the footsteps of those who've improved so much on Bicillin.

Doxy 3 times a day at 250mg = 750mg a day thats what I was on 4 months straight and then later put back on it again in combos with other abx's.

Way back in 98 I was put on ammox and doxi and I managed to get six months of both and improved dramatically(three days of symptoms a month.
The ducks said I was cured and I went back to work...one and a half months later I was a basket case again IGM positive so don't stop until all your symptoms are gone for about a year..If you can tolerate it cuz when I went back to ammox and doxy it never really had the same effect....

Got IV ceftriaxone then zyth and levaquin oral in 99 then back to ceftriaxone IV again in 2000 and 2001. Flagyl oral did a good job for about a year 250 three times a day but the ducks told me I was taking it too long and took me off of it and I became Igg and Igm positive in 2003....back on ceftriaxone and then clyndamicin...oh yeah a couple of months on bicillin shots in the rump that gave me some success(fled after shots discontinued by llmd).
I am presently taking Ketek and am feeling better yet I still have my monthly sessions and am pulsing with metronidazol(flagyl) on weekends durring my monthly cycle...I have experimented with double the dose recommended and watch my heart symptoms but am trying this cus I've been sick too long and am trying to erradicate this thing....not to worry...what have I got to lose..........anyway........I'm sure I left something out but what surprises me is a lot of ducks and llmd's still prescribe anti-inflammatories in their regimens and I think this (at least for me) is conterproductive.
We should be strenghthening our immune systems not depleting them.....zman

For me the best combo: Biaxin XL+PLaquenil+Mepron.

For 3 months I added flagyl 2 days a week every week.

I am starting my second month of Doxy 100mg 2x day - I am very sick right now - but was actaully feeling well for a solid week..yea! I have not taken antibiotics except for once in the last five years - (b/c I thought my reactions were allergic and ended up in hospital last time).

I felt pretty normal that one week though, I also can have periods randomly during the day where I realize I am functioning normally.
