Hi all,
I haven't posted in quite awhile, as I have been so well, that I have been working and going to horse shows.
Well, my owner just pulled a tick off of me, and the spot has swollen to the size of a golf ball. She put me on Doxy right away and took a picture. She wants to send the tick off to a lab (it is red and dead), but needs advice on the best one. Does anyone have experience on having a dead tick tested? Would it be worth doing if it's dead?
Any advice is appreciated. BTW the protocol we have been given is a very high dose of Doxy which is really hard to administer and even harder to tolerate. It is REALLY NASTY STUFF. So any advice in treating big fat ponies is also appreciated.

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

My husband not too long ago had a tick embedded in his head while we were at a military base, which we surmise had been embedded for almost two days. We had it taken out right there at the clinic and asked them to put it in a plastic bag for us to mail off for testing.

Since I have Lyme, I, of course, panicked and called Dr. C right away for a number to Igenex. It takes around l4 days for the results to get back to you. Unfortunately, they called sooner because the tick was positive for Lyme, and Dr. C put him on Doxy for about 6 weeks. He's never shown signs of Lyme and that was several months ago.

The cost for tick testing is $55.00. It doesn't matter if the tick is dead or alive. They can test it either way.

I think it's worth it, rather than having to worry. You can depend on the test.
