Hemolysis is the bursting of the red blood cells. (Hemo = blood, Lysis = bursting).

Hemolytic anemia is anemia because something is deatroying your red blood cells. If too many are destroyed of course you die.

Chloroquine is an old line Malaria drug, with some nasty side effects, but P.f. Malaria is even more bad than the side effects. Unfortunately alot of Malaria is resistant to Chloroquine.

I know about that one because I asked my Dr. about taking a few days of it to clear out the lesser form of Malaria I was dealing with.

She said she wouldn't use these drugs because of the bad neuro-psychiatric side effects... such as halucinations and tendancies toward suicide. Not even for a few days for Malaria, and certainly not longer for Babesia. I was convinced! That is exactly the kind of thing we pay her for!

If I was in the jungle burning up with fever it might be another matter.

Overdosing Chloroquine to 50mg/kg can be fatal according to the warnings.

I'm not familiar with the other, but took a quick look out of curiosity. It is another heavy duty anti-protezoan med used for some other very bad things I hope none of us ever get. It looks like something I would want to research thoroughly before putting in my body.

They are both considered nearly useless in treating malaria:

For babs, I would go with mepron/zith or clindamycin/quinine.
