Hi everyone,

Has anyone with Lyme and/or babesia, who experienced chronic dizziness, vertigo, or vision disturbances ever had those things get considerably better or go away from normal lyme and babesia treatment?

For instance, did anyone have these symptoms prior to being treated for Lyme and/or babesia, and went on antibiotics for lyme or mepron/zithromax for babesia (just an example) and had those symptoms get better?

I am just looking for some hope.

Thanks a lot,
sara

Dear Sara,
The lack of response to your post is discouraging, since I have the same thing and nothing I have done so far has helped me.

I am on mino 200 mgs every other day, mepron, artesminin, diflucan and millions of supplements.

This is a very tough symptom and one of the most miserable. Don't know if it is from lyme, babs or yeast.

What are you on and what has your doctor told you about your vertigo? How long have you had it and can you get out or go to work?

This was my first alarming symptom of lyme prediagnosis, meds have made it much worse.

There was a post about vertigo with a lot of responses, just two days ago or so. Maybe this is why noone is responding. You might want to look for it.

I have had a lot of improvement with vertigo with Lyme treatment. This particular symptom has improved more than any other, I think.

If you are on minocycline, it is good to know that this drug can cause vertigo (which, for me, improves on the "cylclines" after a month or so). The first time I tried it, I couldn't function at all and was vomiting a lot. I waited 18 months and did succeed on getting on the mino, although I did have bad dizziness the first weeks, and it returns in stormy weather.

On tetracycline, I also had a lot of vertigo getting on, for the first 6 weeks even, and then had a huge improvement. Macrolides and amoxicillin helped my vertigo and I did not have problems with it while getting on.

Overall, the "cyclines" are good Lyme drugs, and help a lot of problems, but they do cause vertigo initially, or possibly exacerbate pre-existing vertigo. Some people might say this is a "herx," but I don't agree, for myself. The benefits of these drugs have made the first month of discomfort worth it, as long as I could function at all.

Hey Sara

Have you had a chance to get in any earlier to see Dr S?

I just had my 2nd visit with him and he thinks I have Lyme, Bart and Babs. Like Lyme isn't bad enough alone...

I have only had vertigo a few times and only in the very beginning of my symptoms.

I do seem to get more motion sick lately though. The smallest thing can make me dizzy and/or sick to my stomach. And there is more of the feeling that the car is still moving, even when it is stopped.

I was the kind of person who loved rollercoatsters. The upside down pirate ship at King's Dominion and the Tilt Awhirl (sp?) were my favorite rides. Now, I doubt I could get on the merry go round.

I do get really dizzy all the time now. Standing up, walking, climbing the stairs, etc.

And I have all kinds of visual symptoms: over-extended visions, floaters, spots, sensitivity to indoor/outdoor light, lines in my vision, spots, etc. My vision gets worse every year. And my night vision goes from bad to very bad - it can take about 10 minutes for my eyes to get used to the dark.

I was on Biaxin and Minocyclin (along with Artesminin, Nystatin, etc) and was just switched to Zith and Levaquin (sp) to try and fight the Bart (I think).

Alot of my pain is gone since starting the Biaxin/Monocycline. I seem to be more dizzy and lightheaded since starting the Zith/Levaquin.

Thanks for the responses.

I did read the post on this topic from a few days ago, but that seemed to be more about people who were unable to kick the vertigo after all of the normal lyme and coinfections treatments.

Right now I am only on amoxicillian, 4500 mg/day. I just tested positive for babesia, which was no surprise. I can't treat that now though, because I am pregnant. I will have to wait 6 more months until the baby is born to begin that treatment. I just wanted to know if there was any hope this would improve from treating the babesia alone. The amoxy doesn't do anything for my symptoms.

Jill, I didn't get into Dr. S any earlier, unfortunately. I still have my appt. for late March, but I don't think they're going to be able to do much since I had the western blot with igenex and the coinfections tested with MDL. I'm on the amoxy to prevent passing lyme to the baby, and it seems everything else has to wait until after I have the baby.

Thanks again for responding,
Sara

Sarabear, did you read my response a few days ago to a possible help with the vertigo/dizziness.

I don't want to bore you by repeating myself, but the jist was my husband has it bad.

He has lyme but is unable to accept that yet. He was almost inconcapacitated with it until we found that band I was talking about.

It's not the simple stretch relief bands they sell at the drugstore. It's like a watch, and you wear it over the pressure point associated with dizziness and nausea, and I swear to you it works.

I did not think it would, or if it did help just a little maybe. It doesn't make it go away completely but it makes it much better. It is at a more tolerable level. The ginger root really helps too. They come in capsules.

Hope this helps, I wish I could do more. Hang in there. It also safe when you're pregnant I had eight children and morning sickness from hell. The band works for that too.

Thanks tikbit. Luckily I don't have it so bad that I am unable to get out of bed. I have a 14-month-old to take care of, so I manage--sometimes I don't know how, but I do. I don't go out much because if I enter a large store all of my senses go nuts, and I either pass out or come really close to it.

I am going to look into the band! Thanks so much for letting me know about it. I can't believe it works but it has obviously helped your family so that gives me hope!

I really do appreciate it.

Thanks again!

Dr. S is great. He is also a nutritionalist and has his accupuncture license (as far as I know). I hope he can help you at least a little bit.

When I was pregnant, the GYN office told me to use one of those bands for morning sickness. They said it worked wonders. Of course, by the time they told me about it, my morning sickness started to go away.

So, I hope this band Tik is talking about helps you.

Sara, I had vertigo and dizziness on and off for years.

I've had LD 16 years and did abx for Bb, but was never treated for the really difficult coinfections until last year (babs, bart, mycoplasm).

I am sure babs played a role in the dizziness, since I've had NO episodes since finishing babs tx 5 months ago. Also, those horrible floaters that were almost blinding me at one point are gone.

(I did mepron/zith/art for 7 months for babs. I'm still on bicillin for Bb. Just started Ketek/omnicef/cats claw for bart).

I used to feel, all of a sudden, that I had lost my balance and was about to fall over. I could be sitting, standing, or even lying down. And for one brief (about 2 months) horrible period, the floors kept tilting up at me and I walked into walls. That's completely gone, too.

I don't associate the dizziness with bart, since it was gone before I started bart tx.

I should also say that I've done a lot of detox for heavy metals, bacterial neurotoxins, etc. in the past year; I don't know much that has had to do with being de-dizzified.

Hmmm. Guess I should stop whining about being so tired on Ketek/omnicef and bicillin. I'm doing great!

Thanks! Jill, I am very excited about my appt with Dr. S. I will let you know how it goes!

Minoucat--Thanks for the reply! Congrats on your marked improvement! I sure hope treating the babs helps, if only a little, for me. I appreciate the hope.

Sara
