Hi GNines,

I have had that symptom too, it's very frustrating. B-12 helepd me somewhat in the very beginning of my treatment, but so far treatment for the co-infection Babesia has helpd me the most. I am currently taking Zithromaz, Plaquenil, and Malarone for the Babesia/Lyme.

I also have trouble falling asleep, I am taking Elavil to help with it, but if I am herxing....I am ususally up anyway.

Welcome to Lymenet and let us know if you need help finding a LLMD (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor)or any other information.

This is a common Lyme complaint. I tried all kinds of supplements and I can't brag about any of them working well on the brain fog.

I think it's the last symptom to leave.

Now that I'm declared "cured" I'm working with an Osteopath to detox. My hope is that my brain will return.

I'm taking "Antitox" Gentle Drainage. It's supposed to help the body gently detoxify. I've only been on it about 2 weeks so I haven't given it enough time yet to declare it a miracle or anything.

I kind of wonder if things would have progressed faster in my recovery if I had been taking something more than just milk thistle during my treatment. I didn't know where to turn for anything like this back then.

Yes, there are things that can help this.

I was just started on Piracetam and a low dose of Hydergine to improve the brain function. Both are nootropics, or 'smart drugs', nutritionals for the brain.

Info on the meds: http://www.biogenesis.co.za/pi-piracetam.asp http://www.biogenesis.co.za/pi-hydergine.asp

My Hydergine was prescribed and is available at any pharmacy.

The Piracetam is non-prescription, and is also available in the US here:
http://uniquenutrition.net

I ordered from both places to compare the quality of the generic with the name brand that ships from the UK.

I have not picked up the Hydergine prescription yet, but just taking the Piracetam for a couple of days I have already noticed a big difference.

It seems to stimulate creative thinking and problem solving... Absolutely critical in my case since I write software and cannot afford to have my head messed up. I can multi-task again, even when there is still some fog. I can power through it and still get things done.

B12... I have used it for years, it is an essential for me. A little bit is all that is needed though, massive doses just end up in your urine.

Another thing... When needing to have peak performance for a period to get difficult work done... You probably will need to scale back the ABX to just a low maintenance dose until the job is done. You can't operate at peak while having a herx!

I'm doing this on my LLMD's advice right now. It is OK to do this now and then when you need the extra clarity to do necessary things like earn a living.

I'll keep everyone posted as to how the nootropics work out... but so far I am impressed with the improvement.

James - I know this was a long time ago... I would love to hear your experience with the nootropics.

Researching Hydergine for my son's brain fog. It was suggested in an Autism support group to be helpful...

I buy in bulk - and encapsulate myself

But I've heard Source Naturals is a good source.

Knotweed protects the brain from Lyme neurotoxins & it's a micro-circulator/vasodialator so it helps supply the brain with oxygen.

canefan- where do you get it the knotweed in bulk?

I have done self encapsulation with my tumeric... I don't have a good source for the veggie caps.

Would you share your sources for both?

What has helped me is B-6, B-12, Omega-3 fatty acid, and really mainly treating the Babesia. I think something in Mepron helped clear a fair bit of the fog. Not entirely out of it - but better.

Ask to talk to Sarah - she's the best and is up to date on Lyme protocols.

She can really help with contraindications and she won't shy away from telling you you shouldn't take this or that.
