Besides Actigal, does anyone know how to salvage the gall blaldder when you do rocephin 7 days a week? My doc won't perscribe it for me, thinking it will counter act with other meds I'm on. I'm on fluid restriction of 26oz. a day because of a sodium problem.

I heard it's bad pain on the right side. I've had a dull pain on the upper right side for the last 2 days and am hoping this isn't the beginning of losing my gall bladder. Is the pain lower low, or higher side for those who have had the misfortune of losing their gall bladder? I'll ask for a perscription for a sonogram today to see if I'm in the "sludge" stage.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help and God Bless.

Cigi

For me, the pain was higher up, sort of under the rib cage, with a lot of mild to moderate nausea. You might also get 'referred pain' in your right shoulder.

I had two tests ... a sonogram and a HIDA scan. Not sure if you have to have both. The HIDA scan actually determines what the function of the gallbladder is (as opposed to just taking still pictures).

I had my gallbladder out years ago. But not related to Lyme.

Many people think that to have gallbladder problems you have stones. That is not always true.

I had gallbladder disease. My gallbladder burst. Dont let it get to that point.

If you are going to have it removed believe me...you want to have it elective, not emergency.

I was having bad gallbladder pain while on rocephin, was diagnosed with huge stones despite being on Actigall, ditched the rocephin, and kept right on living on pizza and eggrolls. Gallbladder is still okay.

This is a VERY subjective, personal opinion you are about to read, but in my highly limited experience, rocephin was not necessary. I had two or three undiagnosed co-infections that rocephin couldn't touch, and my Lyme responded better to abx combinations anyway.

Omnicef and ceftin can both be substituted for rocephin, provided you take them with the right combo.

Omnicef, ketek, and flagyl helped me, as did minocycline. Once I had done omnicef/ketek/flagyl for four months, and had treated the babesia, I switched to levaquin/doxy/artemisinin, and am doing great.

Be cautious of any doctor, no matter how illustrious, who tells you that you have to take rocephin.

My daughter was put on Actigal for gall stones while on Rocephin, too. She still ended up needing to (must!) have her gb removed. I agree it's much safer to have it timed under "elective" (even though you really don't have a choice but sooner is better than later!) than emergency!

Years ago another nationally ranked LLMD was quoted here as says he didn't think the Actigal was effective anyway. Yet others here say it is. Just like LD - confusing!!!!!!
