Have been having such a dramatic response to levaquin/doxy after two weeks, I decided to post the results in case they are useful to anyone.
After two weeks, my killer bartonella headaches have stopped and the swelling in my throat has gone down, my contact lenses stopped popping out of my swollen eyes, and I can sleep for six whole hours without waking up, although I still need a small wedge of ambien to get to sleep. The change was so abrupt, there is no question the levaquin caused it.
I've been taking supplements of MSM sulfur, Vitamin C, phosphatidylcholine, N-acetyl choline, and alpha lipoic acid, because Lymenetters suggested antioxidants and sulfur could offset tendon problems. So far, there have been no muscle or tendon aches.
But the rumors about levaquin being a depressant are true. I've abruptly become grouchy, fragile, exhausted, and combative, even though celebration is clearly called for.
Glad to hear that you are doing so well! (minus the depressive state of course)
What doses of doxy and levaquin are you on?
Also, are you on any other abx at this time? (I remember you being on ketek, omnicef, etc...)
I am getting ready to do battle with bart and I am trying to figure out the best (which for me means the most aggressive) protocol possible.
Thanks for any thoughts!

Congratulations! Always good to hear good news.
I was on Levaquin for months with no tendon damage. It's a possible side effect, not a certain side effect. I had aches, but that's why I started the darn drug.

Hi Liz,
I am really happy that is working for you. I couldn't tolerate the side-effects.

Peach--am on 500mg levaquin, 400mg doxy.
After calling around to several top LLMDs (who I can't currently afford), I heard consistently that rifampin is the best bart abx, with levaquin the close second. But apparently, rifampin can be almost intolerable.
Lyme combinations seem to vary from person to person. I did well on ketek, omnicef, and flagyl, and also take artemisinin.
