I'm looking into the possibility of having some custom embroidered items made to promote Lyme awareness. I've found a company that does really nice work with no minimums to order (although prices get better when ordering in multiples of ten.)
Quick poll: 1) Recommendations of best charities really searching for a cure?
2) Which item(s) would you be most likely to buy?
3) Ideas for good slogans/logos? So far I have a ribbon design that I "borrowed" for a logo.It is cheaper to have just words than a logo. Ideas for slogan include:
Lyme Disease Prevention is the best cure.
Lyme Disease Ignorance is no excuse.
Lyme Disease Educate. Protect. Cure.
4) Color preference? Would want the lyme green logo to really stand out. I'm thinking navy blue?
I prefer to place one bulk order at a time- the prices get cheaper with the more items ordered at once. (If it's really popular, I could place an order a month or so. I just can't afford to have stock on hand.)
That means, for most items, one color per style.
Created a down and dirty very basic website, at http://maypanic.tripod.com/ to show ideas of possible items and prices.
What item(s) would you actually buy? Do the prices seem reasonable?
Feedback I get in the next week or so will determine whether or not I go ahead with this.
Thanks!

Well, the response has been somewhat less than overwhelming.
Thanks for the email and advice.
I've decided that $1 from each purchase will come back to this site, to keep this valuable resource online. The remaining profits (amount beyond what it costs to have the items made) will be donated to the Lyme Disease Association, Inc.(LDA), for Lyme and Tick-borne disease research, and Lyme Disease Education. Plus, just wearing these items helps spread awareness.
It's been mentioned that some would like to see something other than a ribbon for a logo. Any creative types out there are welcome to submit ideas. I've come up with two more ideas, let me know which you like best. The first is simple but ugly, the second needs work- the bloated tick ended up looking more like a spider.
Other slogan ideas sent to me: "Lyme, the unknown Disease."
"Lyme Disease, The Great Imitator"
Any and all feedback very much appreciated. I desperately need more feedback, to know if it's worth going ahead with this.
Thanks!

I love the third logo with the boot and the tick. I would take at least a fleece vest and possibly a t-shirt. Are long sleeved t-shirts available?

I would buy T-Shirts or Polo Shirts. Blue is always a good color for me. Prices are reasonable assuming decent quality.
I apologize that I am only able to provide smartass input on slogans:
Lyme Disease - It sucks being me. Lyme Disease - Save yourself $500 a month in medical expenses, buy a fake Christmas tree. Lyme Disease - 9 out of 10 doctors are just guessing whats wrong with you. Lyme Disease - Sleep is overrated.

Humor me: Slogan: Lyme Disease has me "ticked" off, with a picture of a tick.

The shirts I've put together say "Ticked Off About Lyme Disease" on the front. Check them out in the Lymenet post - Lyme T-Shirts.
Lyme Disease: Stamp Out Ignorance! Then have the website address underneath.
The tick does look a little like a spider. Some people with Lyme don't want to see images of ticks let alone wear them...hmmm...there has to be a way to convey the message without the image of a tick. The Boot is good....maybe even without the tick it could work.
The hiking boot conveys the message of the idea of ticks and outdoor activities without the tick being pictured. Its sort of like a gestalt where the mind automatically fills in what is missing. It may even be more powerful than picturing the tick at all.
Just a thought from an advertising fan.

At the risk of beating a dead advertising slogan, it occurred to me that something having to do with "Got Lyme?" could be effective. With some smaller punchline like "research, advocate, educate." (Or if we are feeling more cycnical, a punchline along the lines of "Even your doctor probably doesn't know for sure."
I would definitely consider a shirt...I am always a fan of white t-shirts, so that would be my vote.
Thanks for pursuing this!

how about a lyme green four leaf clover that's wilted.with maybe a tick near the stem. it could signify going from good luck to bad luck with lyme disease.
