During my annual urology follow up, microscopic blood should up in my urine. The Dr. was concerned since I had this 18 mo.ago which was kind of at the tail end of my treatment for Lyme and babesia. Of course he has reassured me that in 90% of cases, this turns out to be less than life threatening but he is suggesting a cystoscopy(ouch!). I would like to pass on the cystoscopy but I guess I can't.

I'm alot better but I still believe the babesia is lurking beneath the surface and could be causing the hematuria. Anyone else with a similiar experience?

yep I have the same thing...my hematuria started a year or two before Lyme & Babesia diagnosis. I had the cystoscopy - OUCH is right!!! That was one of the worst tests I ever had and I've been through many...however, my urologist didnt even use any local anethesia which I think is inhumane.

anyways, many tests and no cause was found for the hematuria, so I do think its Babesia, despite months of tx for it. The Babesia attacks the RBC, and the dead RBC are sent out via kidneys. For those of us that have it, I wonder if its a valuable marker or not...(although unlike you, I'm not much better and KNOW the babs is still around)

SunRa,
Thanks for taking the time to respond and for helping others at this site. I don't think I will be able to convince the urologist it could be Babesia. Thanks for the warning on the scope. He did mention a local anethesia. It's next Tuesday and I'm praying for a blizzard. I really don't think he is going to find anything but I feel damn if I do and don't if I don't. I really need to consult with my LLMD regarding a few other intermittent symptoms that I think are related to Babesia. Hope you day isn't going to badly.
