Hi Loverell,

Many on the board have used Zooloft & liked it.

You might try avoiding using Zoloft with the ABX Biaxin because there is a potential drug interaction when combining the two.

The liver can't break them down at the same time and the levels of Zoloft increase in the body to toxic & dangerous levels.

Just ask your doctor what he thinks would be good. Sometimes it takes several tries to get the right antidepressant.

If you wanted to do a trial run of a natural
antidepressant you might research:

1. NutriZAC by Nature's Plus which contains 300 mg of herbal St. John's Wort, plus other ingredients to make you feel better. At health food stores.

I'd first try the bottle with only 60 capsules to see if it works first. (You can always get the 90 cap bottle, later.)

I've tried NutriZAC years ago and liked it. I was never that impressed with St. John's Wort alone, but the NutriZAC I liked.

Here's a picture listing ingredients:

2. Sam-E from health food store lifts depression and detoxifies the liver; does several good things for the body. I haven't tried Same-E.

3. If you think you have more problems with circulation to the brain than depression, you might research Advanced Ginkgo Smart by Irwin Naturals.

It helps with mental clarity and also thins the blood.

I found mine at our new Vitamin Shoppe & it was $17.20. You might find it cheaper on the web, but I don't know who's reputable.

Here's a picture of it;

4. The last thing I can think of is DMAE capsules 351 mg by Source Naturals. It enhances mental clarity. Directions on bottle are l capsule daily.

Hope this gives you some ideas to research, but feel free to ask your doctor if you want to try an antidepressant.

Lyme and depression are like the evil twins.

Best Wishes,
Jan

P.S. Sorry I made this post go wide with the long links.

Great, if you can get past the initial side effects. I think I vomitted for 2 weeks.

The most important thing, while on Zoloft, is to drink lots of water and suck on sugar free candies. Zoloft will give you dry mouth, which inturn will cause dental problems. I had serious dental problems while on it. Also, use a dry mouth toothpaste and rinse, like Biotene.

Other than that, Zoloft may make you better able to tolerate Lyme. It is a good Rx in the right dosage.

I got put on zoloft before Ld dx...
I hated it!!!
First, I was very dizzy on even low doses, then
It made me feel like I was living inside a bell jar looking out at life happening to me.

Everytime I complained that I was feeling worse, my doc would up the dose.
and the dizziness would increase... eventually the depression grew to suicidal ideals, and my liver was inflammed and I was really sick.

Many dr's suggested switching anti depressants...even though I said I wasn't depressed just sick. But my labs were in the normal range, so no one listened..even though I was jaundiced

Finally found a great ND who looked at me and said I was very ill. I detoxed off of zoloft and went on a liver healing protocal.

Sorry for ranting...zoloft is a 4 letter word for me.

I would suggest you work carefully with your LLMD on an appropriate solution to depression for you. I wouldn't rule out therapy either.

I hope you feel better soon!

My 12 days on Zoloft were from hell. I did not tolerate it at all and was SO much more depressed on it than off.

Maybe if I could have stuck it out it would have helped but I don't think I would still be here if I had tried any longer.

loverell,
I took Zoloft for a while (pre-Lyme) and found that while it helped with depression, it made me very numb to everything emotional. Some people are more sensitive to this type of thing.

Also, since it usually takes a couple of weeks for it to work, you can check it out for any side effects.

Just try something, cause depression sucks. Currently, I'm not on anything except trying to exercise a little and get some endorphins going that way. Some days are better than others. Have been on lots of different meds over the years. You can also check out Lexapro, which is low in the side effects department.

Hi
There are two new SSRI's.-antidepressants.
Lexapro and Cymbalta.

Both of these have fewer side affects.

Cymbalta is being used for nerve ending pain also.

Good Luck
