This could be peripheral neuropathy. Have you seen a neurologist? They can do tests to see what kind of neuropathy (sensory, motor, autonomic, or a combination) you might have, but if you're already treating for Lyme you may be addressing it. Lyme is one of many causes of PN. There are a number of types of PN, and some are "idiopathic" (doctors can't find the cause).

The link below is a good forum on PN. They talk a lot about nutritional supplements which may help you heal any damage that has been done. http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=206

The pain in my feet was unbearable until I started using podi patches which I heard about on Lymnenet. www.akgnaturals.com/Podi%20Patch.html

The soles of my feet hurt along with my ankles. Sometimes it feels like I'm being pricked with pins or an electrical feeling. This got much worse every night. Do a search for podi patches (or podipatches) to read the many posts about them. I got immediate relief for the foot pain and also started sleeping through the night.

I think the pain it my feet is from the build up of toxins created as the antibiotics kill the Lyme. The podipatches remove the toxins.

Another thing than helps is soaking in Epsom Salts. I use 1 cup of Salts in a tub of water. If I use more Salts I end up really drained. Sometimes when I don't have the energy for a bath I soak my feet in a bucket of water with a little Epsom Salts sprinkled in. This helps a lot.

I have not got a diagnosis of Lyme yet but I am also having serious problems with pain in my feet and yes it is worse after exercise. I also feel that I have lost some muscle or fat tissue on the sides of my feet.

It is a terrible thing to have pain all the time. I wish there was some relief for it.

Flagyll may help. What helped me dramatically was this one PT session with two tens unit probes on each foot (either side of main bone on top) wrapped in heat for twenty minutes. They had to do this on a few separate days though.

Pre treatment I had very bad pain on the bottoms of my feet. Sometimes it felt like they were breaking...fasciitis? Wore Birkenstocks for two years. After some time on treatment (I don't recall how long )they got better. I also had bizarre vascular changes in feet prior to treatment. Brilliant red & white responses when in shower...burning hot feet during the night...liked to put them on cold floors...couldn't keep them covered. Was probably a neurovascular result. The pain might have been due to that also or a true fasciitis Bb variety.

Ill say it again.

Today I woke up and couldnt get out of bed for an hour because my feet and legs hurt so bad.

Im in severe pain untill I have my first cup of coffee and then the pain goes down a little.

Was put on Flagyl a week ago and I think this is the beginning of a herx. Im not taking any today. Let myself rest.

Pain in my feet, especially the bottom, was one of my first Lyme symptoms. I had to walk on the sides of my feet, because the bottom hurt so bad. Sometimes I couldn't stand on my feet at all from the pain.

This cleared up with abx, and only comes back when I am herxing, but not to the same degree as initially.

Loverell, please hang in there, I know how scary it is to see this array of bizarre symptoms. What's good about it is that I don't think there's any other illness with strange, migrating pain, so at least it's one confirmation that you have Lyme.

I didn't have the peripheral neuropathy with the burning, only the pain that's in the foot muscles and feels like someone is ripping out your bones.

I know that you have an LLMD appt. this month, just make a list of all your symptoms so the dr. will know what he is dealing with.

Hang in, Godbless.

Have you considered a vascular problem? If coffee helps, then maybe your veins are somehow restricting the blood flow to your legs causing pain?

The bottoms of my feet and my heel near my achilles tendon hurt. My LLMD says foot pain is common with babesia. I know the heel pain is common with spondyloarthritis (arthritis of the spine).

I do believe mine is somewhat nerve related. There is a definite connection between my hip pain and my foot pain. I also feel better sometimes in a small heel, something about the angle of the foot.
