Hi everyone,
Does anyone have latent sleep phase problem and do you know how to treat it short of using drugs?

As you can tell I am up at 3 am. I usually cannot sleep until 2 am even with clonapin.
I am frustrated as this is the most stubborn of my Lyme symptoms? will I ever be able to get sleep at night like a normal person and not like a vampire? Does this go away with continued treatment for Lyme?
Thanks for any and all responses!

I don't have the answer. This is one of my worst symptoms too. I fall asleep ok but wake up every hour and then finally just get up. What I do is to stay in bed. Do not turn on the light or TV. Just lie there, try to relax, and eventually you will fall back to sleep. It can be exhausting! But, I have found that if I get up I really have a hard time getting back to sleep.

I also take a catnap about mid day 2 or 3 times a week. This helps.

I had a sleep test. the abx, when it kills the bacteria, releases hystamines and toxins. The hystimines can screw up your nose--even if you aren't fully aware of the fact. For me--I was able to push my lyme pain away when awake but not when asleep. You need to take a pain pill. What is a clonapin?

I also got a CPAP machine and that has helped tremendously. So instead of waking up 233 times a night i wake up 115 times from pain. And twice because I'm fat.

Have you had a sleep test? Mine changes my life.

God bless,
L

A liitle background before I get to the sleep issue. Though I was treated for Lyme (by a LLMD) and did a lot better, I've had intermittent symptoms and problems since. Anxiety and OCD being one of them. So I don't always know where Lyme ends and other factors start. I'm saying this because I have no idea if Lyme affected this but I was waking up every night at 2:30. I had been going to an acupuncturist (to try to avoid more ABX) and told him about my problem and he did a treatment, gave me some essential oils to apply to certain points and I was sleeping through the night in a few days. Another time, I was having problems sleeping when my husband went overseas for the war and received some different oils and after 2 nights, I slept through the night. Then, with the anxiety and neuro problems (just recently),they gave me some oils (along with my regular treatments), and I have not had a problem sleeping. I can always depend on a good nights sleep and it's wonderful to have some peace of mind. Even when I was a mess during the day, shaking, fearful, crying, I could sleep at night. I would recommend a good acupuncturist to anyone. Though you can buy oils and stuff in the store, those need to be prescribed specifically for your problems by a knowledgeable person. And I'm not saying acupuncture can cure Lyme, I don't think it can, but it sure can help with the symptoms.

Consider getting your cortisol levels checked. Chronic infection can throw the adrenals out of balance and result in either too much or too little cortisol production.

If your producing too much in the evening it'll keep you awake. Just a thought.
