Hi all,

Hope somebody can help me. I have been on doxy since last Friday for a sinus infection, which for the most part I thought was working.

A friend from lymenet here (don't have your name in front of me) emailed me saying that doxy was no good for sinus infection.

Today at work just before I was leaving at 5 pm, I got a very bad nose bleed, haven't had one probably since I was a kid. Had a hard time stopping it. Just before it started, all day and yesterday my head has felt swollen, heavy, lots of pressure, especially painful when bending over just slightly.

Eventually a very large clot came out, I am assuming this was the nose bleed clotting, at least that is what I remember reading when my kids had nose bleeds.

A senior nurse at work took my blood pressure - 148/71 and pulse rate 61. BP is higher than normal for me, usually 115/70 with pulse rate around 80-85. I am just a little concerned. I don't think doxy would cause this, but would a herx cause this. I will let my opthomologist know tomorrow as I am due for cataract removal on Monday and will be on prednisolone for about 2 months. Pred is necessary to prevent previous glaucoma surgery from failing.

Even though I will be on pred, I will start abx in about 2 weeks.

Anybody have any thoughts on this. Thanks.

Corinne

Doxy may dry your sinuses, making nosebleeds more likely.
Did you talk to lyme doctor about the prednizone? I have read some bad things about lyme and steroids. But if you must have this surgery, it's kind of a quandary. Whats the healing time estimated?

If uou have infection while on abx, I'd be worried about resistance. So yes, you should probably add another antibiotic to get rid of it quickly. What does the doc say?

Hi DaveS,

Well, I am still continuing with the doxy, Dr. S. said to finish it, will be done by Monday. Even though doxy can dry out the sinuses, it was the strangest feeling.

There are a lot of allergies in this hospital though, it was such a strange feeling, such head pressure and then nose bleed and since then head feels better.

I need to be on the prednisolone, as cannot afford to get an infection in eye or have previous big-time surgery fail, then I will lose my eyesight for sure. I will be on prednisolone for about 3 months, tapered off each week. It is eye drops, when I put the drops in, I hold my finger over tear duct very carefully, that way the drops do not get into my stomach, etc.

I am seeing Dr. M, my LLMD tomorrow morning, and will get an prescription for abx, that I will start in about a week's time. I talked to a doc today at work who said I could be on prednisolone and abx at the same time. I know my opthomologist said I could do that. I am just worried about how I am going to feel.

Started abx eye drops this morning, somehow the eye feels better, but blurry. But the body is really feeling the antiobiotic. Let's just say I am getting loaded up on abx. The weather has turned icy cold and my arthritis, etc. is really feeling it also.

I will let you know on Tuesday how I am feeling and just how good eyesight is. I am cleaning up this weekend, as I won't be able to lift/push/shove or bend over at waist for about a month.

I read lots last night about lyme and eye problems, wow is all I can say. My emotions are a little high this week, I guess b/c I am scared/worried. Take care.

Corinne

Also, when your blood pressure is high, the nose bleed keeps a stroke from happening. Hopefully, your eye doctor know about lyme.

Get well!

Hey there.....

I had a TON of nosebleeds when I was little. Once I got older I had them again while I was on Naprosen (an antiinflamatory that can thin blood)....

I've also had periodically thin blood from lyme disease or from my antibiotics, not sure which one. Could that be maybe whats going on with you?? Maybe your having thin blood and so more nosebleeds??? You could consider getting a PT and PTT if this keeps up. Those are clotting factor tests.

Good luck!

Hi all,

Went to see my llmd on Saturday, our Dr. M in BC. I heard him on the radio just before I saw him. It was very emotional listening to him and jimw and others. Thanks for all who called. I sure hope the radio station does a follow up.

Got a abx from Dr. M for tinadazole (sp?), ketek is way too expensive for me (don't have a drug plan yet), the tinadazole cost me about $75/month and on biaxin $59. Pharmacare covers quite a bit of it for me, but that will change come August, as I have been working for the past 5 months, so rate they cover for me will change.

No nose bleeds over the weekend, just lots of worry and fear. Had the cataract operation Monday pm, took about 1 hour altogether. A very strange odd sensation, a little more uncomfortable than I thought it would be, it's the feelings afterwards that almost drove me crazy. Freezing lasted for about 10 hrs, couldn't touch eye or get anything in it or near it.

I am on prednisolone eye drops every 2 hrs for next 2 weeks, then every 4 hrs for 1 week, then 4 times a day for 2 weeks and then tapered off. All in all on it for 8 weeks, it's an absolute necessity. Also on abx for eye for 2 weeks. My arthritis immediately increased shortly after starting prednisolone.

Dr. M. advised me to wait 6-8 weeks until after operation, give the eye chance to heal, eye doc agreed. For the past 4 days, my eye has been aching/sore, itchy/scratchy, swollen feeling. On Tuesday (day later) vision was 20/20 with new lens put in, yea, still had blurry vision but that will go away. On Thursday vision test was less, but still very good. Eye doc did a little dance and put a big WOW (he has never done this before) and a smiley face in my file. Thinks abx will help maintain my vision and eye in long term.

Now still have some problems though, had to take out right yellow lens in glasses (don't need 2 lens now), but vision very very bright and clear right now and CAN'T drive at night b/c don't have anti-glare finish in right eye glass, takes about 10 days to get. So I am walking around with only 1 yellow lenses, I do look strange, but then i did before.

I drive to and from work in the daylight so am very lucky. Just have to wait. Came home this pm after making the rounds of various eyeglass shops to see if could get lens quicker. I am so tired, I can hardly lift my arms, and legs so wobby, just want to lie down and sleep and so I will soon.

At my daughter's place (condo), one of tenants wouldn't get on elevator with me, I think she thought I was a druggy. I just laughed, I might look strange but am still functioning and getting better. My moods and emotions are much better this week. Thanks all for answering, it means a lot to me.

As for nosebleeds, had lots when I was a kid but always had low low bp, now is a little high for me (138/92), but doc says will go down. Dr. M says both ketek and tinadazole causes blurry vision, eye doc says to wait for 8 weeks then start tinadoazole and see what happens. So.... Happy Easter everyone.

Corinne
