Malarone is not as strong as mepron. There is a Lymenet argument over its value, which you can do a search for.
The LLMD you are seeing (your treatment is very distinctive) generally prescribes 10ml/2x of mepron for babs. According to other Lymenetters and my own limited experience, you might want to check out the combination of artemisinin, mepron and ketek. The best arte company is Nutricology (also known as Allergy Research), which you can order from Vitamin Shoppe if you're in NY.
If you ask for this treatment from this LLMD, you don't want to antagonize him. Like for example, you could start by getting ketek, which is the next generation of zith and is much, much, much better. He'll be happy to prescribe it for you.
I did a search on malarone and parsed through a number of the threads.
What I learned was the Malarone appears to be as good if not better than Mepron for treating Babs.
Yes, there is less Atovaquone in Malarone than there is in Mepron. But that doesn't mean Malarone is less effective than Mepron. Malarone also contains another ingredient (I forget what it is.)
Also very importantly, Malarone is more than TEN times cheaper than Mepron.
If you have any specific info that Malarone is not as effective as Mepron, I'd be very interested in the link.
I have no scientific proof at all on this. I'm going on 1) Lymenet posts, 2) the fact that malarone didn't work for me at all, 3) my doctor went to some conference and found his fellow doctors were saying that anything less than 10ml mepron doses didn't work, and 4) phone conversations with some Lymenet individuals.
But that doesn't mean you aren't right! In fact, now that the subject has come up on Lymenet so much, maybe it's time to do deeper research. If you find something great to post, by all means, do so.

I noticed the same thing Michael did when I searched Lyment for Malarone. Lots of positive reports, not much of a debate.
Last time I checked, there were at least 13 different strains of Babesia that cause disease in humans. It seems possible that different strains simply respond to different drugs.

the reason i ask is because my daughter was on 4 tablets of malerone a day---by her llmd and had to stop due to severe psychosis and anxiety. she was on for a month and a half. i have heard that other people take as much and was wondering about that.

Kicking this back to the top.^ I'm interested in malarone and the other ingredient it contains.
My son just finished a 3 weeker of mep, and he herxed all over the place. We tempered the dosage to one tsp. [10ml] per-day, and he still had real problems.
The doc is cranking his zith up to 500mg next week, and he was taking art 200mg per-day with the mep.
I'd like to hear from folks who've had success with malarone/zith/art. Is plaquinel a necessary part of the treatment ? Does art need to be taken with the malerone ?Thanks for any help.
