You would have to be more specific about his demeaner for anyone to know if he seems normal.

Sometimes when I'm having a bad day I don't have the mental energy to learn or do anything.

I have a 20 something neice who is sick and all she does is complain. She still drinks alcohol and goes to bars and does not eat healthy.

Granted, I go through periods where I can't mentally handle it, but I get through them, and I go back to the daily grind of reading and posting on lymenet.

Has your son ever had interest in learning what has been happening with his health? Does he have the type of personality to be inquisive about his body and mind? Does he like to learn? Does he just feel that others will deal with it for him?

I guess everyone handles the situation differently, but I personally cannot understand how one would not want to be informed about their own chances for a better quality of life?

Maybe I could talk to him? Just a thought...

I have a male relative a bit older than your son but he has to be macho about illness all the time, does not want to face it even when he's obviously sick, has to pretend it does not exist, insists on covering it up.

I won't make any gender stereotypes. I do think everyone handles it differently, and it may be too overwhelming for a young guy to look at chronic illness.

Incidentally, I belong to an internet group for people with life threatening allergies (such as to peanuts), and a frequent complaint there is from mothers whose teenage and 20-something sons scare their moms by not taking it seriously. There are Moms who have a heck of a time just getting their sons even to carry their life-saving Epi-pens.

I also tend to hide my Lyme with friends if I can, just so I don't keep appearing like "the sick one." (Even though I am). I think we all go thru different stages of being able to take in information about it, and having to be in denial.

I am glad that you were able to find treatment for him!

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

Your son may also be trying to not be reminded he is sick. I was 27 when I first had really acute symptoms, and I did my best to not live a "sick" life.
