I swear, I am about it give up on everything! I have stomach problems-started getting them the same time I got this other crap stuff. Basically my stomach and intestine area will burn. They have been treating me for acid reflux for 2 years now and I take prevacid for it. Now the last couple days, the burnging is back-especially in the upper mid intestine area, but I do get some in the lower intestine area as well. I do notice a lot more burping and such with it. Can this go along with Lyme and such? I do go back to see my gastro dr in 2 weeks. Ive had tests done in the past and all was normal. Help!!

Nancy

Hi there,

I can relate...I find I get some of those symptoms when my sphincters/valves (associated with the stomach leading into the small intestines and the bile duct into the small intestines) where they "freeze up"...basically causing a type of gastroparesis...food just can't flow through like it should...even causing a back flow at times...

I too went through all the tests, but unless it's happening right at that very moment, tests don't catch it.

If you are on abx, perhaps you might need a change in abx to hit the specific pathogen causing this...?? (I personally suspect a co-infection...Bartonlla in me that is doing this, as I have had the hardest time treating this darn pathogen...It always fights back in the worst ways.)

I have to constantly rotate treatments, as one will work and open my sphincters for a week or two and then it stops, I switch abx and then it my sphincters open back up again...UGH!!

I work with a "alternatively minded" physical therapist and she is trained in various things like cranial sacral, myofacial release...and visceral manipulation...and she helps me manually reopen my sphincters when they "freeze up"..but even she has a hard time...It's not like they just want to "pop open"...it seems to take some work!! Unfortuinately, if my anti-pathogen treatments aren't working, they just freeze right back up again. That's how I usually know it's time to switch treatments again.

Sometimes keeping to liquids, soups and such can help during these times, but I tend to get so frozen, I can't even get plain water to flow through...just sits there and I get so nauseas...I am so dehydrated now because of this symptom...If I force liquids, it just comes back up on me...

Miserable symptom...I hope you figure it out and get some relief!!

All my best,
Kira

Kira,

Does your stomach area burn really bad too? Thats just the worst. No I am not on any antibiotics yet. I swear I will never get my test results back-its only been a week though! I take prevacid 2 x's daily. It used to work great, but not lately.

Anyone else out there having similar problems?

Nancy

Nancy,

Sorry I didn't get back to you right away...not online often...but yes...I do get the burning if my sphincters are locked up and a backflow starts up...

I have to be careful too, because I take digestive enzymes...(or I can't digest at all)...and I have been tested that I need HCL...but that is assuming my stomach is functioning...when it doesn't the acids just stay in my stomach and burn so bad...Feels like I should have a hole in my stomach by now...UGH!!

I am glad you got to see your stomach doc...I hope you are able to find some answers. I know it always feel like forever in the meantime waiting for results.

Keep me posted if you find out anything interesting or something that works for you!!

All my best,
Kira

You know something though?? I never started to have stomach pain until I started taking acid blockers. I do have bad GERD and they put me on Prilosec a couple years ago. A couple months after being on it, my stomach started hurting. I am currently on Prevacid and now the same problem is happening. Ive been on prevacid for almost 3 years now too. I have to come off the meds for the testing so I am hoping that will help.

Can acid blockers cause stomach pain? I hate all this!!

Hey Nal,

I've had the same stomach stuff for years............diagnosed with GERD and hiatal hernia blah blah blah.

I have been dealing with thrush (candida) and the stomach and severe trunk pain........I tried nystatin but it really made me too spacey to function (am sure it was working tho).

I then tried a few mycelex troches and.......all stomach discomfort disappeared. Now I'm not saying this will help you but I was flabbergasted!

I am now on a long run of diflucan.....I don't have any stomach problems and I have now experienced three days of NO trunk pain.....

I do wish GI docs would check for candida when they do their scoping but .......one can hope.

I started with 200mg of diflucan for 8 days and am on 14 days of 100 mg now..........head was kind of spacey on the 200mg but am doing better all around on the 100mg.....am hoping it lasts.........

When I put an entry in my personal journal that I had no stomach pain I figure I'm doing something right.

Shelley

I am taking pro biotics once again. I need to go back on the Candida diet. I did notice a difference when I was on it. Thanks for the advice.

My daughter has had the burning pain and reflux you describe for more than a year, very intense. Also fluid retention and other symptoms.

The G doctor just did an endoscopy (loking for celiac) and large colonies of yeast are visible on the photos. The doctor did biopsies and they are positive for candida. So she's on fluconazole (Diflucan) for 3 weeks, 200 mg.

I'll let you know what happens!

I did request that that the scope include testing for yeast, but with such visible colonization, I think anyone would have tested for it. It's in her espophagus and stomach, visibly, and probably lots of other places too.

There's another wonderful parasite called Giardia...........it usually shows up in stool but mine never did.........it was found only in my stomach........flagyl I believe is used to treat it.

It is usually found in water........but I never left the country so..........who knows.........guess with a weakened immune system anything is possible.

I too take pro-biotics and eat yogurt....
