hello all, just returned from taking my 23 and 15 yr old daughters. took me 3 days after the trip out to overcome the severe exhaustion. it was probably stupide idea but i was afraid i would never never get the chance again.
i barely left the hotel as i thought it might be good for me to totaly relax with no stress.
my questions are two: memory loss is getting worse however when i am able to go to work for a nfew hours, my technical memory is still working . . not perfecftly but better than day to day memory of what i said or did the day before.
the worst thing that happenend on the trip was the night i couldn't fall asleep. i was fine moment conversing with my 15 year old. i then went to the bathroom and passed out while sitting on the toilet. i fell onto the floor and was unconscious when my daughter came looking for me. she just started screaming for my 23 yr old to wake up and help. how terrifying for them especially because they could not wake me up and had to drag me to my bed. I did take an ambian about 20 minutes before i passed out. i try not to take these every night but sometime i am deperate to get even a few hours sleep.
my question is was the passing out related to the ambian or could there be another cause.
thanks for any suggestions. LynneR

Lynee, good to hear you wer not hurt when to passed out? Could have been a bad situation.
I wanted to get back to you becauses I pass out on my Ambien and Restoril everynight. I make sure that I am in bed about 10 minutes after I take them because I am just gone.
My parents were also taking Ambien and I saw the same thing happen to them. So hopefully that is the simple answer to your question and there isn't something more serious going on.

Ambien can make you dizzy, but it shouldn't be knocking you out. Also, you didn't mention whether you have been diagnosed with Lyme, and if so, which antibiotics you are taking.
There are many antibiotics on the market which should slow down or stop the symptoms you say are getting worse. If you post your diagnosis on Lymenet, and tell people what kind of doctor you have, you should be able to get recommendations.
Right now, I'm on "maintenance" antibiotics, and also babesia treatment. I probably won't get better, but I'm well enough to go back to work. The maintance abx that help me are: omnicef, ketek, and low dose flagyl.
I deal with the sleep issue by chopping the ambien into smaller pieces, and taking a piece whenever I wake up. If you start right off on the full dose of ambien, you'll end up taking more if you keep waking up in the middle of the night, and it can be quite addictive.

I don't know what abx you are taking or how long you have been treated.
One of my first symptoms was total blackouts, where everything went black and I crashed to the floor. It was scary. After 12 weeks of IV Rocephin and 2 months of Ceftin I took an abx holiday because, although I initially improved greatly on Rocephin, I was stuck in a holding pattern with no more improvement.
Off of abx I became extremely ill: relapse, systemic candida & babesiosis. My BP had dropped to near death levels and I was prone to passing out. It usually happened while shopping in a store with fluorescent lights and lots of stimili. My BP would plummet and boom, down I went. Being back on abx has helped that.
Anyway, you might want to have your BP monitored, as it could be that might be prone to hypotension. I have taken a few ambulance rides to the ER because of hypotensing and whomever I was with at the time didn't know what else to do, except call 911. I understand how frightened your daughter was.
Talk to your MD. I spent the night in the hospital hooked up to a BP monitor, Holter monitor and EKG. I was awakened avery 2 hours to have my BP checked in lying, sitting, standing positions. Blood was also drawn to check my cortisol levels. For me, it was just that I had very low BP, and needed to have my meds adjusted accordingly. I was given Ambien one night at 9:00 PM. The nurse was taking my pulse at 10:30 AM the next morning because she thought I had died. That stuff knocked me right out and caused my BP to go way down.
I am telling you this just so you can bring some possibilities up with your MD. I am not suggesting that you are prone to hypotension but, I do think it is something to seriously consider, especially when taking prescription sleep meds.

thanks for responding. i was diagnosed by a lyme specialist in dec 04 after my neurologist discovered 8 spots on my brain and send he had no idea what caused it even though i had suggested on 3 previous visits the possibility of lyme. he just brushed me off so i called a lyme specialist on my own. right now the only ABS i am taking is biaxin xl. i have an appt with the lyme doc in two weeks so i can update him then. thanks again, LynneR

About that "passing out".... In my opinion [I'm not a dr!] you just fell asleep. That has happened about 3 times to me. It's important to take the Ambien, then go straight to bed.
I don't always follow my own rules, but that will keep this from happening again. I think it says something like that on the drug info sheet.
I never mentioned it to my dr.......so I could be wrong about the "falling asleep"
