I've been on oral abx for 5 months.
I've been on oral antibiotics for 5 months. First 2 months-doxy. Then Zithromax and Mepron for 6 weeks, for Babesia. And Ketek since Feb 23-and only now I have a horrible thrush (in throat). Dr said stop ketek and take Diflucan for 3 days, then back to ketek. Anyone else know anything about this? Thanks Pat

all long term abx cause thrush.
you do not have to stop abx to treat trush
200mg per day for a week should clear it up.
also mycolex troches help.
long term abx you must take acidophilus mucho amounts to replace good bacteria that is being killed by abx.
lots of pure culture yougurt also will help.
the best acidophilus is at the pharmacy over the counter but behind the counter in the refrigerator. it is active and live culture that works better than anything.
good luck and enjoy the metal taste, doesn't it make your fod taste wonderful.

Pat, do you know why your dr. said to stop the Ketek while you were on Diflucan? Some say stop, and others don't, and I am confused now.

I am also having bad yeast while on Ketek, but have been on both Ketek and Diflucan for 3 days, 100 mg. 2/day, and am getting worse.

I am planning on calling the dr., but am wondering what other people are doing.

I have been on doxy, amoxicillin, zithromax, biaxin, omnicef, tinidazole, flagyl, and ketak at various times and in a variety of combinations, yet haven't seen much difference in likelyhood of getting thrush or yeast infections between them. What DOES make a BIG difference is what I choose to EAT, and whether I take my probiotics and plain yogurt faithfully. The more sugary foods or drinks and simple carbs or grains that I eat, the more likely I will get a "furry" white or blackish tongue. When I cut back on those foods, then make sure to take the pro-biotics a couple of hours after my meds, and eat some yogurt every day, I have no problem. When I've cheated badly dietarily with holiday sweets and notice any beginning thrush, I sometimes take some Diflucan for a couple of weeks, and then avoid the sweets & simple carbs again and go with my usual routine. (One reason the simple carbs & sugar are bad is that they make your body more acidic, which helps bacteria, viruses, & fungi. Green veggies especially help to alkalize the body, making a less hospitable environment for the bad bugs, thus aiding healing.
