I posted here earlier about exhibiting many of the symptoms of Lyme after a tick bite (rash, stiff neck, headaches, joint pain, wierd UTI-type symptoms, strong herxheimer-type reaction to two different antibiotics).
Well, I was given 10 days of Omnicef (Cefdenir) 600mg daily, and it's been 10 days since I've stopped using it. So far, the joint and back pain has 90% gone away and stayed away. There's still some back soreness, and my right knee especially occasionally has a kind of dull ache.
I'm assuming that if what I have/had was Lyme, the symptoms will come back in full force in a few weeks, especially because Omnicef is not known to have good blood-brain barrier penetration, so the spirochetes are probably still living in my nervous system.
I'm still going to look for a LLMD in NJ or NYC that takes my insurance (WellChoice HMO). In the interim, should I try to convince my (new - since the old one told me I read too much!) GP to prescribe doxycycline 200-300mg per day? Or I suppose I could get the stuff in Mexico, since I'm going to California next week, but I'm kind of worried about the quality of Mexican drugs.
Whatever happens, I don't want to regress back to where I was before I took the antibiotic!

Don't know how long you've been infected.
This is a very strange disease, so different for so many. I don't think 200 - 300 mg of Doxy will do too much, but if you are doing all right so far ...
I would doubt that any LLMD in this area takes your insurance. Going by what I've heard many don't take HMO insurance.

If you've had this disease a short period of time, I would do whatever it took to get more abx ASAP!
You want to MAKE SURE you got the keets killed out!
If you've had this awhile, there's no huge rush, but I still wouldn't stop the abx now. The spirochetes have a 4-6 wk cycle, so 10 days will not kill them out in my opinion.
IF you took the 10 days worth in the first few days, then maybe.
And I agree with Monica, good luck on the HMO. I seriously doubt you'll get them to help in any way, shape, or form.

Unfortunately, I've had symptoms since a tick bite last May. I also had a flu-like illness after a tick bite several years ago, but those went away and might have just been the flu.

I agree with you. It's getting my GP to agree that will be the hard part ;-) At least whatever I have is relatively responsive to antibiotics and the joint pains have mostly gone away, so it's not likely that my joints were permanently damaged (yet).
