Last Friday my MD diagnosed me with tonsillitis and pharyngitis. He prescribed amoxicillin 500mg 3 times a day. Saturday night after going to bed, I felt like I got hit with a mack truck...severe headaches, aches in all my musles and joints from head to toe and nausea. This MD knows I have Chronic Lyme, but he is not LLMD. I called his office Monday morning because the headaches and other aches are not allowing me to sleep. He said to keep taking the amoxicillin and he sent an rx in for the nausea...unfortunately I have not been able to pick it up. I feel horrible. I called again today and the medical assistant told me to take the amoxicillin with chocolate...can you believe that?? Is this herxing that I am going through??? This is very important for me to know. The dr has called in a different med for me, and I am afraid to take anything if fear of this lousy feeling...the headaches are horrible and knees, finger joints, elbows neck everywhere...I would appreciate some help with this. It is hard to live in an area where there are no LLMDs. Thank you I do not have migrains or high blood pressure...but this antibiotic has knockec me for a loop...I have had Lyme for 33 years and only run into Docs that do not understand Lyme and how ravaging it is...

If you've had Lyme for 33 yrs and have never been treated {??} then you have a pretty hefty bacterial load. You may need to back off the meds a little. [of course, ask your dr].... but if it's a herx [sounds like it to me, but i'm not a dr].......

then backing off the meds would be better than taking more meds to offset the first ones. Know what I mean?!

I hope you will now find an LLMD and get proper treatment.
