I was wondering if anyone could tell me what zithromax is used for...Is it used in conjunction with Mepron to fight Babesia or is it used in conjunction with other abx for lyme?

Also, does anyone have any good diet tips...I am having a hard time staying on the abx because I don't have the money to pay for them...my insurance does not cover anything.
I am supposed to be on my 3rd and 4th round of mepron, I already did 6 weeks? should this be enough for babesia? Thanks everyone

Hey IBT, I think I can help you here. Zithromax is often used with mepron to kill babesia. Zithromax is used with plaquinel as well, which can treat cyst form of spirochette, and babs, as well as lyme.

My son is having very good results with zith, but it can be hard on the stomach and GI tract if taking orally. He's doing IV's and gets some wild herxes once in a while, but they pass.

Ask for malarone in place of mepron as it's much, much easier on the pocketbook. You could also take artemisinin along with the malarone, and zith to kill off the babs. My doc also uses plaquenil and artemisinin instead of mepron, along with zith, to treat babs.

Standard babs treatment is 3-4 rounds, possibly longer of mep/zith. 3 weeks on mep, one week off, then a few more times of this cycle to make sure you've got it.

Can't help you with the diet though. My 15 year old son has lyme, and he'll eat anything that isn't moving, within a 20 foot radius. I have to run now and check on my 2nd mortgage loan, so I can buy him groceries next week.

Hi there,

I am taking Zithromax along with Malarone for Babesia, so far I am doing good, but don't know when I will be able to stop meds.
Been treating babs for 8 months now..

Good luck to you.

What they said. Zithro is used in conjunction with Mepron (or Malarone, I don't have any experience with that though) for Babesiosis or by itself (or with other antibiotics or Plaquenil) for Lyme.

I was treated for Babesia multiple times with Zithro and Mepron. The first time was for three months and I didn't get rid of it completely, although the symptoms I attributed to it got a lot better. Then I was treated again for 2 months with IV Zithro and Mepron and another 3 months with oral Zithro, Mepron, and Artemisinin. I believe I still have Babesia but that it's in a chronic form now and the symptoms of it come and go. My main symptoms of Babesia are night sweats and heart palpitations, but I'm sure some of my other symptoms are from it, too.
