If many of you are concerned about hypercoagulation, do any of you take the BCP? Iknow it has the risk of stroke...just wondering what you do for Birth control if you think that lyme increases your risk anyway for clotting, etc...

I went off the patch once I started my ABX treatment, since I feel that I will just be flushing $20 a month down the drain since I would have to use back up birth control anyway...
I have never felt better - personable wise. Does that make sense? I mean, emotionally I feel great. I'm still in pain, I'm still tired, I'm still dealing with the memory/concentration issues, still have a little anxiety, etc, but I feel better off the patch than on it.
Same thing happened when I went off birth control pills to get pregnant. When I went back on them, I felt terrible until I got used to it...

I use a hormonal contraceptive called NuvaRing (www.nuvaring.com). I like it a lot. The low hormone doses are so much easier for me than the high dose birth control pills I used to take. My Lyme symptoms don't flare-up as much with PMS now, and I think it's because of the hormonal contraception. It's also a convenient and comfortable method to use, where you only have to remember to take action every few weeks, as opposed to taking yet another pill every day.

Low dose BCP are only low when compared to other BCP. Also, the hormones are not bio-identical to human hormones. However, I had a rough menopause because of Lyme and have since become an expert on HRT. guess it all how you feel on them.

janet..i really don't want to use hrt...THAT'S WHY we were discussing using a low dose bcp . I am estrogen dominant, and the progest creams arnt cutting it...
they thoguht maybe it they kept my hormones more regular instead of the peaks and valleys of my cycle the way it is now, i won't get hte tremendous headaces, anxiety, adn everything else period-wise I get that goes along with estrogen dominance...i've read john lees book too, and the progest cream didn't work for me, and i can't do soy since i have problems with my thyroid.
this is NOT to use as birth control..jsut to straighten out my hormones...they're not at all conerned about the risks, as I was on them for years with no problems, and im not overweight, nor am i a smoker...
but i was just wondering since i estrogen dominant, but have lyme adn there is that concern everyone keeps raising about the coagulation stuff if it could be an issue?

I have read John Lee's book and 3 dozen others. I have consulted with 4 top notch HRT doctors. John Lee never lived in a woman's body and his progesterone theories are all bunk, IMO. No such thing as estrogen dominance . The progesterone creams do nothing except delete your funds. How old are you? Do you have regular periods? I can recommend drs who are experts on female hormones. One does phone consults. You can email me if you want to continue this privately.
