My husband takes Mepron for Babs. He was told to take it with a teaspoon of olive or some type of cooking oil. (We use light olive oil because it's one of the healthiest of oils.) Having the oil mix with it has eliminated the heartburn and indigestion it caused him. He keeps the oil in his mouth, then takes the Mepron with it. He says it kind of dilutes that nasty taste.

thats good to know. However, i really can't stand the taste of oil by itself and then to mix it with that yellow tempura paint consistency stuff would be tough!! Does the olive oil have a good taste by itself?

Almond butter works well too. After 12 months I have come to accept the taste. Still can't get past the color, though.

mmmmmm Mepron, after a month or so, your tate buds wont even recognize it, mine sort of went numb. The reason for the oil is that the fat is needed to help with absorption. I always took my mepron right after a meal. Unless you are on a real low fat diet, you should have enough fat from that.

Yes, it's pricey-call the pharmacy and ask for a price. Malaria and it's close cousin, Babesia are nearly always treated with 2 drugs at the same time.

Extremely pricey, while I would only pay $40 for a three month supply, the incurance company was paying $1,000 per bottle.

Thanks for passing that on. The Mepron is truly nasty. I am not sure how great it will be mixing it up with something else, but, anything to help!

Just a funny note on this. This lovely yellow "paint" has left yellow tinges on my lips before, but I usually notice right away. I managed to go to my son's school and speak to his teacher one morning, then run errands, all before noticing that I had a somewhat bright yellow "mustache".

Later that day, I asked my 7 year old why he did not tell me I had yellow on my face and he just said "your lips always look yellow when you take your medicine". ugh.

Is it not bad enough that we have to take the stuff, but to also manage to embarrass ourselves in the process!

I wonder if you can paint with the stuff? Has anyone tried? Just kidding of course. My dr told me its very expensive as well!!!! Fortunately my insurance covers it otherwise I would have never tried to go on it-couldn't afford it out of pocket!!

Whoa - $1000 a bottle? I would suggest anyone needing to save on Mepron should get it from Canada - I *only* paid $570 CAN for my bottle...that's half + exchange...wow, that's exorbatent....Shauna
