I started zithro iv last week, (two times a week) on rocephin 5 days a week. My back is in muscle spasms, big time. My doc wants to prescribe rifampin for the pain, but am on alot of medications for other things. Toprol for heart, lexapro depression/anxiety, and levoxyl for thyroid. Over the counter stuff does nothing for pain. I read and there seems to be no interactions with these meds with rifampin. Anyone have luck with rifampin and what was it used for with you?
Thanks much,
cigi

I'm on rfampin and mino for bart/brucella. It's actually a TB drug, but good for any infection that involves the respiratory.

Sorry, I'm being treated for bartonella also. I just need relief somewhere with the muscle ache from the IV zithromax and over the counter medicine doesn't cut it. I never had the muscle pain much, not like this, on rocephin, now have alot with the zithromax. It's weird, on the rocephin, a few minutes into the infusion, I see black floaters, but on the zithromax infusion, that doesn't happen. I'm not sure of what goes with what to treat what. Pain reliever suggestions for muscle?
Thanks,
cigi

cigi, that may be an indication of sensitivity to the Rocephin. You need to be careful, and report this to your doctor. It may be nothing, but if it is a sensitivity/allergic reaction it could increase and you would be in danger. If you have not ruled this out, please address it.
If you do nothing else, at least try infusing slower - much slower - and see if the problem goes away. Some people need to take a half hour or a full hour to infuse R.
