To make a long story short, since I've posted here before:
* Bitten in the head mid-May 2004
* Since then: joint pains, visual symptoms, EM-like rash below my right nipple, back pain, UTI-like symptoms, fatigue
* ELISA came back negative in Jan 2005
* Given Omnicef 600mg/day for 10 days for a sinus infection this March, which caused the joint, back, and UTI symptoms to mostly go away for about 5 weeks. Also had Herx-type reaction.

So, as I predicted, the joint pains came back about a week ago. A few days ago, I also developed a sinus infection, probably a secondary infection due to allergies. So, I started taking some Augmentin 500/125 that was left over and not expired twice a day (basically 1000mg Amoxi per day plus a penicillinase inhibitor - the latter isn't helpful against Lyme, but probably isn't hurting much either).

5 days into the antibiotics, no major herx-type symptoms, but the joint/back pains are gradually but surely going away. Also, I seem to feel more alert. Unfortunately, I only have 2 more days of the stuff left and it's not like my GP will prescribe any more.

I think that I'm going to make an appointment with either Dr. E. Eir.. in Jackson, NJ, or Dr. A. Gai.. in Basking Ridge. Meanwhile, I'm sorely tempted to order a month or two's supply of Amoxi at 3000mg/day from a British site that I've heard provides decent service but isn't too particular about buyers having a script (http://www.mast***market***.com).

Anyone have any comments, either about those two docs, or the web site? I'd just as soon not go off of the drugs now, as they make me feel better and Amoxicillin is very safe as far as antibiotics go. It's also very effective in some cases according to some studies, provided it's used long enough and at a high enough dose (>= 3000mg).

Thanks,
Drew

I strongly suggest you call for an appt. with a LLMD NOW.

You just may get in before the meds. would arrive.

Hi Agz,

I heard really wonderful things about Dr. E in Jackson. She is a life saver.

I'll be away from NJ until May 8 or 9, so I won't be able to get to a local LLMD till then (I guess I won't be able to pick up my order of drugs either )

Since the Amoxi is only like $50 for 500 x 250mg capsules (125g total), I'm thinking of ordering it anyway plus some doxy (100 x 100mg). Think of it as cheap insurance if nothing else.
