Anybody ever had any testing done for mercury levels? Anyone been tested, come up positive, and responded to chelation treatments?
I've become interested in this angle since I did some reading on mercury poisoning and found some symptoms that match mine that I've never seen listed for Lyme disease before. Specifically, my eyes have been screwed up for almost 2 years (halos, floaters, sensation of having a film on the eyes, pain, sensitivity to light). An eye doctor I visited said I had the same symptoms regarding pressure on my optic nerve as those with glaucoma. I've also had one constant headache for going on 2 years now.
I've had other symptoms respond to the heavy antibiotics that I've been taking for the last 2 years, but the headache and eye problems have responded very little or not at all.
Anyway, if anyone has any experience with this, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Also, if anyone knows a good lab near the Sacramento, CA area that can do reliable testing for this, I'd appreciate info on that too.

You are definitely on the right track. go to our doctor's website on www.neuraltherapy.com and do some reading there. You will find tons of info - that's the route we followed and have conquered Lyme.
You need to find a dentist who understands how toxic mercury is. He can give you a challenge test and you can send the urine collection in to Doctor's Data in Chicago.
I forgot how far Chico is from Los Angeles. I know a wonderful dentist who does ART (autonomic response testing) in Los Angeles. E-mail me if you want.
Let me assure you that only by taking the multi-approach toward Lyme will things get well again. There is no shortcut -
Take care.
P.S. really, most practitioners that know of the dangers of mercury should be able to give you the test.

Headaches, uh? Have you been tested for co-infections. For me headaches mean Babesia. Visual complaints are a Lyme sumptom. Not discounting mercury toxicity.

So...does that mean you guys have pursued the mercury route? Have you had success with that?
Janet, I've never been tested for Babesia, so it's another angle I've been looking into. The interesting thing is, though, that the headaches intensify or lessen along with the eye problems - they don't come independently.

IMO, the first action of a person suffering with a non-lifethreatening chronic disease, such as Lyme disease, is to get their body in as much "balance" as possible prior to, or possibly in parallel with, treating infections.
First, I would getting my heavy metals measured, and detoxify if necessary.
I'm going through detoxification at this moment (just started - first step was to prepare the liver for the actual chelation step.) I'm doing DMSA (3 days on, then 11 day break to recover. Repeating this 6 times, then remeasure metal levels.
I'm also taking chlorella (OTC herb).
I just started on all this, so I can't tell if has helped yet.
Second, you should also have your hormones checked (estradiol, testosterone, dhea, progesterone and cortisol), and correct any deficiencies.
I'm not an endochrinologist, or medical doctor of any sort, but I've heard the somewhat same store from several doctors, namely that it's not good enough to just be within range. You have to be near the "optimal" spot within that range.
Thirdly, start eating healthy. Drop all sugary stuff, alcohol, carb rich foods (bread, potatoes, pasta, most rice). Start eating fruits (drop grapes, pineapple though), nuts, greens, seeds, fiber rich breads, etc. Drink plenty of water. Drink green tea. Drop coffee. Etc.
Just my 2c. I'm not a doctor.
I wish I had known all this 1 year ago when I first was diagnosed with LD. But I didn't. Instead, I started immediately on abx which in retrospect, I don't believe was the least useful. Not my fault really. LLMDs fault actually. Just throwing abx at the patient is just plain pathetic - close to braindead, if your body is not ready for it.

I can agree with the Lyme and especially coinfections if you haven't been treated for them. Sounds like possible Babesia to me also. Headaches esp..
I've had irritated, dry eyes, foggy blurred vision since getting sick. Started Mepron twelve days ago in addition to antibiotics for Lyme and vision started clearing more and more almost daily.
I tested for heavy metals last month with high results for lead, mercury and significantly high for Cadmium. I will treat for these in the future, but I'm not ready yet. I don't think I could swallow one more pill at this time.
The point is, even though my metals tested high, I'm seeing improvement with my vision after treating coinfections. I tested neg. for Babesia, but have the symptoms.

Pocono, were you able to arrange for the heavy metals testing through a regular doctor or did you have to find a special doctor/lab? Also, was the test you took a blood test, urine test, other? I actually had my doctor set me up for a mercury test, which came back negative, but it was a blood test and I have since read that the urine test is far more reliable.

Ditto, but after a year of Babs treatment my progress stalled and addressing the metals was the next step.
