could be yeast that has ulcerated but probably is a pizza burn. 90% of sloughed palate tissue is from pizza burns or hot cheese sandwiches. if you had pizza within the last week it is a pizza burn and will heal in 7-10 days

Hi, don't know what it is, but just wanted to say you are not alone. I have this happen regularly. mine starts with tiny blisters, then sloughs off. my doc cultured it once, neg. doesn't seem to be connected to eating hot things, but that would be one explanation. when I have this, I seem to also have more aches, swollen glands, feverish feeling. Thought it was a CFS thing, still trying to decide if I have Lyme. Hope it gets better soon. Blessings Earthmama

I had a pizza burn for a LOoooong time. Bummer. It feels like it'll never heal. I hope that's what it is, although I know I've had a sore red throat ever since having lyme. It flares depending on ups and downs with hormone fluctuation and dietary.
If it does not heal, I would also think yeast/thrush.
I asked the gp to swab my throat for strep and they could never figure it out. Drove me crazy. I could tell it was something out of wack with my system and they acted like they had no clue or had never seen a yeast infection before.

Look up "epithelial" ulcer (hoping that's the right spelling, if not, it's close). I know that everything I've had wasn't Lyme related, but since I'm finding more and more stuff is, chances are this may have been too. Big sore on roof of mouth, very painful. Lasted a week or so, maybe 10 days, was awhile back so hard to remember...I don't think there was anything I could do for it.

About a year and a half ago I was under TREMENDOUS stress. The whole inside of my mouth started burning, gums, cheeks, roof, everything.
It lasted about 10 days. I had mentioned it to a friend and she had the same thing happen to her once and was told by her doctor it was a form of herpes, like a cold sore. She told me how long it would take to go away and it vanished just like she said. I've never had a visible cold sore in my life.

I was told the same thing. It was very painful to try to eat. Prescribed Valtrex and it went away in 1-2 days. Once that is in your system it can stay dormant and something such as stress from whatever brings it out. Good luck maybe it will help someone.

Hi Lymetoo, thanks for the welcome. I seriously doubt my doc checked for yeast. I don't have any obvious white patches, but wouldn't rule it out. I do have a history of cold sores, and it does remind me of herpes blisters. I seem to be having them every few weeks now, used to be just occasionally. gets to be a bit of a pain. I'm going to schedule an appt. with my doc in the next couple of weeks. perhaps to get labs repeated. I have tested neg to Lyme before, but don't know if we did Western blot. My doc is pretty open to the idea. She thought at one time I had Lyme, because of history of bullseye rash. It preceded my declining health. Although this was 38 yrs ago, before anyone ever heard of Lyme. Probably wouldn't have made a difference though, since at the time my doc. was the one who diagnosed my asthma as "nerves". LOL. Thankfully my current doc. is a lot better. Hope you all have a great day. Thanks for making me feel welcome. Blessings Earthmama

First guys, yeast rarely ulcerates period. it usually attaches to the papilla of the tongue and then the checks usually not the palate. herpes is the burning in the entire mouth and does form small ulcerations that can be reduced by oral acyclovir or topical acyclovir on the sore, it is still viral and takes 7-21 days to heal. now the erosion on the palate , if you ate pizza then it is a pizza burn, don't look for anything else to drive you crazy. it will heal by itself over 7-14 days. erosive lichen planus can occur from stress etiology unknown and can manifest on the palate, however it is always on the cheeks before the palate, so if no cheeks no lichen planus. herpes usually manifests on the side of the tongue, the lips, cheek, gums, and sometimes the hard palate, rarely soft palate. both herpes and lichen planus are from stress andovertake the immune system when the body is stresses. they appear as ulcerations about 1/4 inch in diameter start white then turn red with a white ring around them when they ulcerated. antivirals or oral tetracycline helps reduce all above. so fess up did you eat pizza??

Sorry, Dave, I haven't eaten pizza in years, but I was getting this regularly. It would always manifest on the left side of the palate. I would usually have a slight temp as well, and flushed cheeks to go with it.
At it's worst, I would have a whole flu like syndrome. It has turned out, for me, to be a reaction to mold in my sinuses. On the left side my maxilary sinuses are very low, and the partitiion is thin, so the ulceration comes through.
Long term anti-fungal treatment and avoidance of exposure has pretty much eliminated something that had become almost constant.

riversinger: if you are getting an ulceration from the sinuses several things maybe occuring. 1) you have an infection of one of your molars usually palatal root that causes expansion of the palate them ulceration, fever occurs due to infection. the roots, especially palatal roots of upper molars only have a .5mm to .25 mm bone thickness between them and the sinus, that why sinus infections cause all your upper teeth on the side of the infection to get real real sensitive to cold, decongestants and it goes away. an abscessed tooth on an upper molar will give these symptoms, so check for infection of tooth first. tapping on the tooth with a metal rod ,with sensitivity spells abscess usually and will show up on xray. 2) now the maxillary sinus can get infected but usually does not expand the palatal bone, unless you have a polyp or cyst that is expanding in the sinus, and xray will show this also. sinus infections don't have enough pressure to expand the bone ,the bone can only expand due to an infection from a cyst, ascess,or cancer. amore thorough dx from an oral surgeon or good general dentist should solve your problems. ent's are very poor at dx of the maxillary sinuses and palatal area, dentists are better., sorry to disappoint you.

hey heatherkiss: you can eat pizza, just let the cheese cool down before you eat it, the cheese gets 400-500 degrees and burns the roof instantly. just let it cool till its not burning to the touch. don't give up the pizza, just be a smart pizza eater. watch those pepperoni's also.

docdave, you don't disapoint me, but you are incorrect in my case. My dentist was in fact very involved, as I did have tooth pain that was constantly moving, sometimes even showing on the lower jaw.
X-rays and other exams showed no infection of teeth or gums. CT scan of the sinus showed inflammation and fluid in the maxilary sinuses, with a cyst on the right side, not the side where the erosions showed up.
MRI of the brain shows very little space between the maxilary sinus and the teeth on the left side. There is a significant difference in the size of the sinus on that side, as compared to the right.
Culture and blood tests show fungal infection from numerous species, and anti-fungal treatment showed resolution.
And I don't eat pizza.

riversinger: thats extremely interesting and i will take note. i have never seen or read in the literiture of yeast becoming agressive and erosive, i guess anything can happen. there is definitely a coorelation between upper teeth especially molars and sinus problems, symbiotic, teeth can cause sinus ans sinus can cause teeth to hurt.its pretty rare to get a yeast infection in the sinus anyway. and yes tooth pain can migrate from tooth to tooth and from arch to arch not uncommon from upper teeth. the pain could be from fifth cranial nerve neuralgia with can cause all kinds of havoc in the mouth. i have had 4 lyme related ropot canals meaning that there were no cracks or decay in the teeth they just got so sensitive to cold i couldn't take it anymore and had root canals done on the teeth.i am now nursing a fifth tooth but it looks bad. YES THE BODY IS A STRANGE WORK OF ARTAND ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE
