I've been on oral treatment antibiotics for the past 5-6 months and regarding a lyme issue. I have been getting one strange symptom, which happens unexpectedly, about a couple of times every month or so. I have been getting Blackouts, where for no reason you feel like your going to go blind, your vision fades, you break out with sweats, your body shakes, you start getting physically uncomfortable, you get a mental queasy feeling, and it gets to the point where your hearing starts to fade. I'm not sure if this is a symptom of lyme, but when I got tested a couple of months ago, the IGM Western Blot claimed I was positive for lyme. The first oral antibiotic I took was minocylin and Zithro. Then after 2 months, I went on Mepron with Zithromax. Now my doctor perscribed me to take Ceftin, twice a day, which I have taken in the past about 2 years ago when I also got tested and was claimed positive. I was curious if anyone has taken Ceftin for lyme and if so, has it worked? Also, has anyone had the blackout symptom, experiencing the same effects as I had and if so, what was done about it? Also, what are the side effects of Ceftin?

The one drug write-up on it that I read said it worked in "...extravascular spaces..." thereby implying that it did not enter cells. Also, and I could be incorrect, but ordinarily,if the structural integrity of the BBB is not compromised, I don't think ceftin will cross it.

There were one or two posts re: Ceftin in the last 3 days. You may want to check them out. One was a poll about differing abx tx.

Hope you get your answers. I am on Ceftin. Thia ia day 4, so one of the posts was mine. (No black outs. I am only taking one for the time being. I am waiting for glands to calm down before I double it. )

After an 8 week course of doxy I was on generic ceftin and then zithromax and then flagyl.

I think the doxy helped me the most but I also think the ceftin and the zithromax had beneficial effect too.

I blacked out several times - dropped to the floor. Treatment for Babesiosis took care of that, for the most part. I did ok on Ceftin - held me steady for a couple of months.

I have been diagnosed with lyme and coinfections since Feb.

I started with 4 weeks of Doxy - not much improvement - then was switched to Ceftin. I am now on my second month of Ceftin - 500 mg. twice/day. It has helped me much more than Doxy.

I have some pretty good days and some not so good but overall I have been able to do things I haven't done in a long time.

I did have an episode of vertigo at the mall yesterday and that really scared me as I was 50 miles from home (by myself) - but I made it back home. It has just taken some of the confidence out of me and I feel lousy today.

I had that blackout feeling with babs. I would suddenly feel fragile and vulnerable on the street, and have to rush home. And it made me feel like I was standing under a waterfall, like water was rivuling down my body, and stinky like I'd been exercising.

Smack the babs with mepron, zith or ketek, and artemisinin/artemisia. It might take several months: I've done seven months, and only get babs relapses during one week. But that means to keep going.

I've never take ceftin at the same time as babesia treatment. It was perfectly good, especially for neuro stuff, and it got a lot of help from zith/ketek and plaquenil to enhance the zith. But if you have babs, you may be better off knocking it out first, and using maintenance Lyme drugs. You can't trust plaquenil to do that on its own.
