Just make sure you protect your gall bladder, as Rocephin can be hard on it. Some use milk thistle, some take Actigall as a preventative.

Also, your doc may want to consider flagyl either with the Roc or immediately afterward so you will take care of cysts that are forming.

Also follow up with oral meds once you stop the Rocephin. And yes, I imagine you're herxing! Sorry to hear that you suffering. Those monthly herxes can be real killers.

Take care and hang with us!

Yeah, same.

Try artemisinin and see if you experience a change in symptoms. If you do, you may have undiagnosed babesia, which will cause a Lyme relapse down the road.

Also, you might want to try an intracellular abx like ketek or zithromax. Ketek is better, but since it's very strong, I'm not sure if you can take it at the same time as rocephin.

As someone who loves flagyl and just got into trouble with it, please take one word of caution: it will kill nearly everything in your body except you, so you have to pile on the probiotics, the anti-yeast medications, and maybe staph medicine. It really does clobber the cysts, and will give you the herx to prove it, but it will also temporarily throw your system out of whack.

I just saw your second post, and realized you are a total newbie.

It's too late at night to write much more, but cysts are a dormant form of Lyme that it can roll up into, to avoid antibiotics. Later, when you stop taking the drugs, the Lyme reemerges, and you have to start all over again. The two drugs which help clear out cysts are flagyl and tindamax.

The flagyl herx is excruciating, so you would be wise to wait until after you are done with rocephin before taking it.

Babesia is related to malaria. You must kill it with a completely different set of antibiotics than Lyme. It can become resistant to drugs very quickly, so you have to hit it fast, hard, and for several months, just to be sure you are rid of it.

It's a big deal on Lymenet at the moment, because many people who have been sick for years, and thought they were hopeless, actually had babesia and Lyme at the same time. When they started treating the babesia, they abruptly felt better. Babesia is a common "co-infection," so read posts on this subject.
