Can you get a tick tested if you pull it off and save it? Anyone know where this could be done? How long can you keep the tick? Someone just asked me this and I had no idea. I've only had ticks on myself as a child and not as an adult so it had never dawned on me to do this.

Yep, just got my results today from the tick I had tested 3 wks ago. [It was negative!!!!]

Can we be sure a negative tick test is truly negative? I've wondered that since my husband sent a deer tick off to be tested a few years back. He brought it home on him from a trip back east to VA. I think it must have been Igenex he sent it to. It was negative, but I wondered what the chances are this could be a false negative. He did not get sick after the bite, but he has some chronic health problems.

Someone told me it's very accurate. They actually test for the DNA of the borrelia. I hope that it's accurate!!!!!!!

I also have had good news about a tick we had tested that was on my husband's neck for approximately two days.

I called today, and it tested "negative". I jumped for joy I was so excited. This calls for a celebration!!!

Lymetoo, I'm so glad yours tested negative...are you continuing with Doxy for the remainder of the 6 weeks?

When I called the first time we sent in a tick back in August, I specifically asked if it was a reliable test and can we be certain no Lyme was transmitted if the tick tested negative.

Unfortunately, the first tick we pulled off of his head tested positive, so he took 6 weeks Doxy and never acquired any symptoms from that.

They stated that it was reliable, but to be sure, I'm calling Dr. C to ask. And, I still fully won't believe it until I actually see the report that is being mailed.

This disease has made me a skeptic.

This certainly is a good day!

Not sure about other states, but GA is in a program now that is offering free testing of all ticks. Supposedly run by the Army. To have a tick tested you call the Poison Control telephone number and they direct you where to send.
Hoping that enough ticks get sent in that it will finally be made aware that Yes - there is Lyme Disease in GA.
