I have been delusional thinking my son perhaps didn't have Lymes afterall, but strange sx are back. He says he feels like raindrops are continually falling on his hand and face. He was infected 2 years ago, and was treated at that time. Now, however, he's been sick for the last 4 months. Has anyone heard of this happening? His initial treatment was a shot of amox and then a 10 day follow-up. I know, inadequate. One of his tests these past few months indicated that he may have had sepsis, but then they said his skin must have just had bacteria on it. We're grasping, but has anyone heard of this being related? Thanks so much.

As a Mom with two lyme kids, I can understand how scary this all is. I recommend that you find a lyme literate doc - no other will do if you really believe your child has lyme. Post over at the 'seeking a doctor' board and hopefully someone can help direct you to a doctor in your area. It will probably involve some travel, like hours, but well worth it.

If you have a pediatrician that is open to learning more and possibly treating your son for lyme disease, you can do a collaborative kind of thing with your doc and Dr. Charles Ray Jones. He's in CT and 'the' pediatric lyme physician. He will work with other docs. Someone here might be able to give you his number - I'm having a brain block right now.

So sorry to hear your child is having problems, mik.

The "raindrops" he is describing sounds like the internal buzzing many of us feel from Lyme disease. It's about the same as if you were to shake your hands vigorously for 30 seconds, then stop and feel the tingling.

Five years ago, i was treated for Lyme with 3 weeks of doxycylcine, following a bite. The next summer, almost a year later, I awoke with exactly the "raindrops" sensation your son has. This is a very classic neruological Lyme symptom, and is sometimes called "paresthesias." The Lyme Foundation in Hartford Ct. can refer you to an MD as well. Theya re big on finding a doctor who can work with your family doctor.
