In the last couple of years, Dr. Steere has begun to study the onset of Lyme Disease (30 years late, reading the book backwards, like real scholars do). In one of these articles, he describes Lyme Infection as resulting in a "Vigorous Immune
Response", like a real case of the flu. Knocks you down for a while. I am curious as to how many people had this kind of onset, and how many didn't. I for one did.

I first became symptomatic 30 years ago. (Dx'ed a year and a half ago...) My memory is not that great, but I am almost certain that I had some kind of acute flu-type illness from which I never fully recovered.

This happened to me. "Knocked on my butt" at onset with flu-like thing for a while, and vigorous immune response.

This did not happen to me. Had a "swollen" knee and leg pains a month or two later, after the bite. A year later this was not gone, and a slight burning sensation appeared momentarily-there and then gone for months. It was not for more than two years that the major symptoms all kicked in, and I never had any flu-like symptoms during those two years.

What is more, the babesia night sweats did not appear until the lyme got worse, after two years, despite the fact that I can prove when I got the babesia. It was not a later infection.

I had this kind of onset. Over 30 years ago I had the worse flu-like symptoms of my life and never fully recovered. The difference in me before and after this "flu" was like daylite and dark.

My balance was terribly affected and I made the rounds of ENTs for years thinking I had Meniere's Disease.

I was just dx with lyme a year ago this month.

It is amazing how little drs. know about lyme. I would like to contact all the many drs. I have seen over the years and suggest to them that anyone who comes into their office with vertigo, dizziness and balance disorder should immediately be considered as possibly having lyme.

But I'm sure it would be a waste of their time and mine.

I had a very quick and sudden onset of symptoms within a week after I was bit.
