I'd appreciate any coments on history of use/efficiency of Plaquenil and Enbrel, both together and separately.

Thanks!

All I know is that Enbrel is very bad news for anyone with Lyme disease.

My son did plaquenil for a total of 6 weeks. 3 weeks on, one week off, and repeated.

It helps the abx penetrate deeper, it also can be used with artemisinin, and zithromax for babs, and it does have some ability to help bust up the cyst form of Bb. My son tolerated it very well, and definitely helped clear up his babesia, because he had trouble tolerating mepron.

Re the statement that Enbrel is bad news for Lyme patients: How so? The physician suggesting this is a local LLMD.

I was just reading in Dr. S' "Desperation Medicine" how he used Enbrel to block the effects of TNF on de-toxing patients. He says this reduces the Herx and the Intensification Reaction. I don't know if he still uses this.

Also recently read that Paula Abdul gets a weekly injection of Enbrel, and that this has helped her eliminate pain that she's had for 25 years. There was some clarification from her doctor that her RSD/CRPS has been treated with pamidronate, and that the Enbrel is used for inflammatory arthritis. But anyway, she claims to be pain-free. (Maybe she has Lyme...)

I was on enbrel for 8 months or so and it made my lyme and my immune system much worse - to the point where i thought I'd literally die. I was not however on plaquenil at that time.

The enbrel did nothing for me, but when I got ill (like a sore throat) it ended up being pneumonia because enbrel lowers the immune system.

good luck.

This is also what happened to a friend of mine who used to post here on Lymenet.

She nearly died because Enbrel lowered her immune system so much. She got an ordinary cold and then ended up in the hospital and almost died. She said she would NEVER take it again!

Where is this LLMD??? Yikes!
