it has been said that you can't have even a drop of alchohol while on flagyl.

does anybody know why this is?

also, i'm afraid to take flagyl becasue i also believe i have a yeast problem in my intestines.

doesn't yeast produce it's own form of alchohol...

will the alchohol produced by the candida be enough to trigger whatever bad reaction other form of alchohol do?

thanks
bill

I havent been able to have any alcohol for 2 years now.

I used to be able to drink my problems away.
Not anymore.

Infact when I used to get a case of allergic vertigo I would just go to the bar.

I would use my drinking as an excuse.
I would wake up sometimes with no hangovers.

Then the hangovers started and I became worse.
Eventually the alcohol made me very depressed.

The last beer that I had was in october and the next day I cried for most of the day.
I was suicidal.

I hear that people who are normally depressed go out and drink. People who have Lyme cant do that. They develop an intollerence to alcohol.

So my point is I wish you the best.
Im on Flagyl now and have used alcohol on my skin with no reactions, As for drinking it I will not do it.

I really do wish I could go out and catch a buzz like I used to. For some reasons even though I was drowning my pain, I think things were better.

Take care

there is almost know chance of me drinking a beer. unfortunately, becasue i used to enjoy beer.

but, as with most of us, acoholic beverages are intolerable for me now.

what i'm worried about with the flagyl is that i am already producing alcohol in my intestinal tract with an overgrowth of candida.

i believe that yeast prodcues alcohol when it consumes carbohydrates that we eat.

i'm worried that this internal alcohol will react badly with the flagyl.

Too much anxiety.

But if you want you can just take 1/2 or a 1/4 or a little bite.

I do that now to see how I react.
It really saved me in a couple of instances.

When I took the flagyl I took a little piece off. I swalloed it with water.

Wated like an hour and then nothing.
So I kept taking more. I think I took 1/2 the first day and then 1 full the second.

I had no major reaction.

I took about a tablespoon of alcohol when I was on flagyl. i had shooting pains in my abdomen for the whole day. Very uncomfortable but not horrible. The alcohol was in a herbal tincture.

As my doctor put it, "You will p--- your guts out," because flagyl reacts with alcohol. This turned out to be 100% true, as I learned after trying to use alcohol-based mouthwash. Arggh.
