LLMD visit today revealed I may have babesia. Dr. recommended a chinese herbal suplement ARTEMISININ. Does anyone have any experience with this? Positive, negative? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I am on artemisinin now..have been for several weeks. I am also on new meds for lyme....

I have had lyme and babesia off and on for years...the lyme all the time. I supposedly have beaten the babesia twice before. Once with high dose lariam after all other methods failed, once with biaxin and flagyl. Mepron has never worked for me.

This is the first time that we have tried artemisinin.

I have tried differing med combination to treat babs...sometimes one works, the other time the same medication regimen doesn't work. I have also been bitten repeatedly, to add to the mix.

My babesia load went up while on biaxin and flagyl, so we are now trying artemisinin. I have been herxing pretty badly since we started weeks ago. I also have been on levaquin for the lyme, so dont' know which medication, or if both are causing the herx symptoms.

Take a look at... http://www.allergyresearchgroup.com

They make the pharmaceutical grade artemisinin that your doctor can order for you. They have more info on their site.

Is artemisinin the one you take for three weeks and then rest for a week?

I went to the URL and I see that it is. I will start taking mine again in June. I haven't noticed a big difference. But I have to come home and take a nap before I take the young'in to soccer practice--maybe this is why.

Thanks,
L

Artemisinin is commonly used for babesia, but most patients don't see significant improvement with Artemisinin alone. It is usually used along with a strong anti-malarial drug.

I was real dizzy the first few weeks on Artemisinin, then it subsided.

This says that it is native to Georgia and North Carolina--but I am too foggy to find anyone that is selling the plant. I want to grow one in the back yard--anyone have any idea where I can purchase one?
