I am somewhat new to this sight. I have been suffering with LD for over two years! I have a new symptom though which started about two months ago. I have intense pain, thumping and ringing in my left ear. I hear with it as if I am sitting in a tent and there are people outside speaking. My GP has ruled out ear infection. I went to see an ENT and he told me I have TMJ. (I am going to another ENT for a second opinion) Most pain is on left side..ie: left knee, hip, shoulder, neck, as well as stiffness and pain in fingers and elbows. I have been on abx for two years as well as a month of IV therapy.
Anyone experience this in their ears?? What can I do?
Thanks,
Nancy

TMJ can very well casue those symptoms, as I have it. TMJ is a neuromuscular disorder for a lot of people, and cause cause intense ear and facial pain and jaw problems.

Unfortunately, I have to suffer it to know that.

BUT, on top of that, there is something known as Intracranial hypertension. Are you on doxy or clindaymcin? Both are known to cause that, and you can get the ear symptoms you described.

Ototoxicity can also cause what you described.

So can yeast, and so can lyme. I know its a tough cookie to figure out. I hope it gets better for you

I used to get something similar that i called my Flub-blubbing ear. It was always on the same side. I went to 3 ENT's and everyone said, you just have small eustacian tubes and the fluid cant drain as well as other people's. It was not painful. Just annoying. And I would have ocassional ringing too.

It all stopped after the massive ABX treatment for me. Are you on ABX now or have you stopped for a while?

I can't tell what it was that I had, but I do think it had to do with the lyme in SOME way. I have never had the problem since, including intense times of swimming and surfing so you would think the water gettin in there might be a problem? Not.

Only thing that helped mine was the ABX. But if it is TMJ you can have massage and relaxation things to help with that.

Where is the popping coming from do you think...do you hear it INSIDE your ear or does it seem like from the jaw area? I get popping jaw from slight TMJ stuff. But it is different than in the ear popping.

Let us know!

I have been on abx for two years. My ear is painful and the thumping is way inside. So I am not sure what it could be. I had to have my thyroid removed in November and the pain radiates to that area...where my thyroid used to be...if that makes any sense.

Severe pain in my ear & jaw was my first big Lyme symptom.

I often get "ear thumping" but it is getting less frequent and much milder. Now I have some days without it at all.

It seemed worse on doxy, a little better on tetracycline and now even better on Biaxin/Plaquenil. However, it may just be that that was the order I took drigs in and each new drug made it milder because I had been in treatment longer.

It is always on the left side, the same side I had Bell's Palsy on. It is worse when I am tired or stressed.
