Hi to all,

I am begining to feel like I am doing all of the getting help and none of the giving help on this board but I guess that is fairly normal on this board.

Anyway seeking help on whether my increase in symptoms could be a herx reaction or am I just getting worse.

I went on IV rocephren 2 1/2 weeks ago.

Prior, I use to get "jelly leg" leg feeling here and there.

Since being on recephren I seem to get this every day in addition to mildly sore knees and shoulders with stiffness. ( never had this before)

Additionally, I tend to be sore and achy all over. (no fever)

Any thoughts to what I am seeing. Is this consistent with treatment.

I didn't think a Herx reaction could last this long.

Lazarus

I'm pretty new at this, here's my two cents:

Your reaction to the IV sounds like a herx to me. If it was just progression of symptoms it should of happened regardless of the IV before you started it even. Since it occured while being on IV, I would guess it's a herx reaction. I doubt it's coincidence.

Remember, IV abx is pretty strong stuff. Hang in there!!

Smiles,
SAK

Sounds like a herx to me, but check with your lyme doc. Hopefully you're working with a lyme specialist.

Also, keeping a symptoms journal will help you figure things out in the long run (in case you aren't already doing this).

During a herx drinking lots of lemon water helps, epsom salt baths, saunas, anything that will help you detox.

I think that what I am trying to figure out is if the achyness, tendon pain and joint pain (both mild)are a side effect of the ABX (rocephren) or is this caused by neurotoxins from the die off of "keets".

If anyone has insight into this please let me know as I am trying to figure out if the ABx are helping or hurting.

I have never heard of joint pain and stiffness being a side effect of rocephin.

Could be natural progression of lyme right now, or could be herx.

If it was side effect of rocephin you'd be looking at other things like stomach problems, rash, heart rate or pressure problems, and headache.

Most likely herx. My herx was in week 3 of rocephin, but was nearly indistinguishable from allergic reaction or major side effects of rocephin, and was not what you are experiencing now. However, MOST folks describe what you are describing.

Have you looked at the other recent herx posts? They are pretty educational!

Also look here (about 1/2 way thru)for a great bath remedy that helped me tremendously!

Good luck!

Very, very normal sounding! Is this the first time you've been told that you're normal??!

keeping a journal helped me alot. it's easier to figure out what's causing what....and you know how our memories are!

I herxed continually for a full year, so don't be shocked if this continues ad nauseum!

the first herx can last sevral months to a year depending on how long you have gone undx and not treated, and how many bacteria are in your system. the more bacteria the more toxins, hence the more herxing.
during my first rocephin iv i was sick for 4 months with sevre neuro problems.
you can fight the herxing you must do what your body wants, rest and sleep. the more work you do during the herxing the longer the after effects are.
if your body tells you to sleep then sleep, if it tells you to eat then eat, don't overdo working because it takes 3 days sometimes to recover from a 20 minute exercise.
