I saw my GI dr this morning. He things the gut pain is most likely related to Lyme but wants to do two more studies just in case. I need to have me endoscope repeated (just had it done 2 months ago but wants to do it again-ok, whatever). I also have to have colonoscopy done-oh joy! I truly trust this dr-litteraly one of the best in CO so I will go with his testing. Peace of mind for me if they are normal.
He switched me from prevacid to prilosec and is adding nortriptiline to see if that helps with the pain. Please, please wish me luck (or pray for me). You all are great-thanks so much!!

Just curious, have you been on antibiotics for awhle, or other meds? Did this doctor biopsy for yeast? My daughter had burnidn stomach pain for almost year and an endoscopy revealed extensive GI/esophageal yeast, which had caused exensive gastritis.
Also, this caused "leaky gut" otherwise known as intestinal permability, which in turn caused some sensitivities to foods containing gluten, which she normally doesn't have. This also exacerbated the inflammation.
This was all a result of meds, frankly.
Your GI doctor sounds good and knowledgable and probably checked for yeast, but just mentioning our experience if at all helpful. Good luck!

No, I wasn't on any antibiotics at the time that the stomach thing started. Unfortunately he is not a firm believer in yeast problems but does do several cultures if inflamation is noted. Was your daughters esophagus and stomach red and inflamed? When I had my endoscope done he only noted a very small amount of gastritis in the stomach. Esophagus looked healthy and so did the rest of the upper small intestine. We'll see what happens this time.
He switched me to prilosec and nortriptiline. We'll see if those help too. I know that long term use of proton pump inhibitors is not healthy (I have been on them for 5 years now) but right now I have to follow his advice and see if things help.

I can ask him if he'll do a yeast stain. Whats the name of the test? Any other tests I should ask him about while he's in there? Hee-hee. I already had a warthins stain done on my stomach for borrelia-=negative. Anything else?

Yeast, celiac disease, Klebsiella and strep were all relevant tests for my daughter.

When you get an endoscopy or colonoscopy, and you have Lyme or bartonella, have the doctor take biopsies for Lyme and bartonella and have them sent to MDL labs for testing. Its worth it!

Most likely it is related to Lyme or one of the co-infections, I would ask him about Gastroparesis. Simple test and was the major cause of my GI problems.
Most of my stomach problems went away with treatment for Lyme, Babs and Bart along with diet change. I will say however that the past month I have been going through the worst herx to date and some of my stomach problems have returned.
As for the meds like Prevacid and Nexium I would be very careful in using them with out really understand what is going on. Stomach acid is very important to digestion and the use of these meds can lead to more problems than they can solve, including C-Diff infections if you are taking antibiotics at the same time.
Even the "Best" gastro doctors missed this one in me. Most doctors are to quick to jump to the medicine route to fix a symptom rather than taking the time to solve a problem.

See, thats what I am afraid of. I have been on prevacid for 5 years now! Every time I tell the dr that they ignore it saying "thats fine" and such. Well, it must not be fine. If I can't take the proton pump's what is a good one to take to relieve the GERD--I get it really bad too??? Please help!
