I was wondering if you have weight gain or lose, I always had a problem of gaining weight, now I am older I feel it is harder, plus with Lyme do some of you find it hard to lose, I think if you gain easy , you will, but if you are a tiny person you won't be able to gain any weight, my problem is I love to eat, I know I have to make my mind up to eat right and stay away from sugar. I have been on some many different diets so I do know how to eat proper. But reading some of the list of problems weight gain is one of them, or am I just giving myself excuses.

Gained and can't loose. Dr says as long as you have infection, you can't loose. Still try, but with sugar cravings and fatigue, it is so difficult.

With each recurrence I have lost 25-30 lbs (starting at 125-130). Gain it back over a few years once I am well... Rinse & repeat.

I've been yo-yoing for at least the past 3 years or so. When I'm on treatment I tend to eat less and lose weight, especially when on IV antibiotics. Last summer I lost about 10 lbs. while on IV Rocephin and then had a period of about 6 weeks where I couldn't eat without getting very nauseous so I lost almost another 10 lbs. Now I've gained it back plus a few extras but I'm losing again (off treatment, go figure). It's a constant struggle for me to stay at the weight I want to be at but I'm not worrying about it too much. Once I get better and can exercise I figure it will all even out.

I also have gained 60lbs over the last two years. My thyroid would yo-yo and even with Provigil Phentermine and a 90% healthy diet (have to some chocolate) gained generally a pound a week.

Decided clinically low thyroid and that seems to help.

My theory is most of us were pretty active folks to begin with and then we become so restricted the body holds onto everything.

Also, metabolic changes with CNS lyme are a factor for me. Some days you just can't eat or you can only eat carbs.

Very frustrating part of Lyme because people see you all chubby and think you can't be sick...should you not be really thin.

Lyme has made me hypothyroid + stopped my periods completely at age 45.

However, to offset such a double whammy of potential weight gain:

Neuro Lyme=headaches from hell=Topamax. Some people lose weight on Topamax. I haven't lost weight, but I haven't gained any, either.

I have chronic daily diarrhea so badly that I cannot imagine that food stays around long enough to create weight gain. :-) This has been tested by my LLMD to make sure there is no giardia, etc... Just a Lyme thing.

Hi Denise-

Prior to my Lyme diagnosis, I put on 30+ pounds in 2 years. Now since I am undergoing treatment I have lost exactly 25 pounds in about 12 weeks - without exercising. I think it's because of the no yeast diet, which excludes pastas, breads, sweets, etc.

However, I am still a great BIG MAMMA and I should gradually lose another 75 lbs to be at my ideal weight. YIKES!

So does the weight come off with remission and/or recovery?

Hi,

Lyme made me gain before after my son to 200 pounds. I went on a diet that is for blood type and lost 50. Then I got sicker as I was untreated/undxd and pretty much only lost 10 pounds.

Went on treatment for 3 mths, took off too early, relapsed and went down to 122. Developed borderline malabsorption and was having difficutly keeping weight on etc.

Got treatment again, needed it so badly put on 12 pounds in 6 weeks. Last 6 mths holding steady at 134. Beleive i will always battle the malabsorption issue, as whenever I slow down on vitamins I get symptoms of nutirent defiecency.

Many gain weight but late stage I think many lose like I did. Makes it harder to fight it with no fat on ya, beleive me, you need some packing to maintain strenght etc and fight off flus and colds.

Take Care
Lymiecanuck
