way back when we started my doc mentioned artimisin, but never actually prescribed it.

my babs titers just won't budge! 7, 8 months - still at 128! all the other stuff is dying off and I feel lots better, but this is ridiculous.

what if I self med and just buy it? what will happen?

I am on mepron and ketek and plaquenil. also diflucan, acidophilus.

thanks!

If used alone any malaria or babesia drug may allow the parasite to develop resistance. Very adept little buggers.
www.vitacost.com is one source,

Titers do not tell all, however, usually they drop as infection clears.

Many have used artemisinin without apparent ill effect, however, you need to research and decide for yourself, with your doctor's advice, of cource.

Artemisinin may be "natural", but that does not mean that it is safe to use without medical guidance. You need to find out how it might interact or interfere with the medications you are already taking.

By all means- for me artimisinin was the key to victory over the babs, and I have no spleen (makes babs much more serious).

I will say, though another essential element in my treatment was garlic- as much as you can manage- it's not easy to eat. You may want to take it in pills, but I swear, chomping it down raw with lots of chewing seemed best....It may be best to take it at the same time as the artimesia, as I did, but I don't know that for sure.

Also with 'mepron' (pure atovaquone), you should be on azithromycin, too. (that's what I've known many LLMD's to prescribe).

There's an atovaquone combi called 'malarone' that I was on, as well as the artimesia/artimisinin/garlic. Instead of azithromycin, it has an element called "proguinil" (not plaquinil) that I never managed to find out much about.

I think that some LLMD's are now prescribing Ketek with Mepron instead of Zithromax for some patients.

thank you.

yeah, I know, not an Rx. but I still don't want to just take it.

the lab didn't do the babs test this month! supposedly not enough blood? and they are making me wait one more month? instead of just redoing it? that is BS. what if I am down to zero now?

If you want to have your Babs test done you just have to follow thru- call doc and ask to have it ordered again. Get the request from your doc, and get a collection kit, if needed. Then just go to a local lab and have it drawn.

Hi Janet

the person there isn't being very helpful - she said it isn't necessary. I think it is. if they screwed up, I want to know, b/c if by some miracle it's BETTER - I should know. one less month on these drugs is worth it.
