Hi,

I went for my initial consult about six weeks ago. I did not see a MD, but a physician's assistant.

One of the main symptoms I've had has been major cardiac issues which began with the Lyme flare-up. Previously I'd had no heart problems whatsoever.

Since the flare-up, I've developed a heart murmur which I never had before, I had changes in my EKG (a non-LLMD found that), and mostly though it was arryhythmia which got progressively worse until it would last for hours and keep me up at night. And chest pain sometimes, I went to the ER once but they found nothing. These all increased progressively over the past 2 1/2 years.

I told the PA this and she didn't say anything about it so I asked. She just casually said sometimes Lyme causes heart issues (which I already knew, that's why I asked). I asked what I should do, see a cardiologist or what and she said see a cardiologist in case it isn't Lyme related.

I know it IS Lyme related. It seems to me that cardiac symptoms are something that should be discussed during a LLMD appointment.

Would there be any point in seeing a cardioloist? I do know that severe tachycardia can be dangerous regardless of its cause, so I'm surprised it wasn't addressed at the appointment.

You are asking important questions. even if the heart issues are related to Lyme, you should have a thorough heart check-up. Best if the doc is LL, but if not, just see a good cardiologist.

They will check whatever your symptoms would dictate. The Lyme may be causing it, but sometimes you need meds to support things until the antibiotics treat effectively enough.

I had to take beta blockers for a period of time to control my rapid heart rate, even after a year of antibiotics.

First I saw a cardiologist for a stress EKG (twice), then a holter moniter, and an echocardiogram. When all of that came back clear, they felt safe to just put me on the beta blockers. Since that, further treatment has enabled me to wean off even those.

Stick to your guns. Get things checked, but don't necessarily expect your LLMD to be an expert in that area.

Hi Luthien,

I must admit, I don't know what arryhymia is. I have had tachycardia (which you also mentioned) the whole time I've been sick. It can be very scarey when one's heart is beating too fast resting let alone stressed. I urge you to push harder to get it looked into. I agree with riversinger. It needs to be checked out whether or not it is caused by the Lyme. I was pushing the drs about this three years ago. After the EKG, I was referred to a Cardiologist. He ignored all my questions and didn't give me any info at all. I finally gave up, but I should not have. Look out for your health because we all know that drs that are knowledgable AND care are few and far between.
Take care,
Beth

Bethanie....Let me see if I can spell it...? Have you heard of arrythmia?? Irregular heart beat.

I think you should also be checked carefully. Then if nothing shows up, perhaps they will put you on beta blockers. I had to do that myself. I couldn't stand the tachycardia. No way.
