Hey friends, I know alot of us have the tummy issues..and I know I'm no exception. My problem is that I will go weeks (been up to 5 weeks) without any bowel movements. I've had every test done, all say fine...but both my doc and naturalpath feel the lyme is pretty entrenched.
When i first got sick, though I didn't realize now it was probably lyme, was sudden and long episodes of alternating contipation and diareah (sp?)...only symptoms at first. Doc thought at first flu, then did all the GI tests...ruled IBS, colitus, ulcers etc.
I'm guessing that's where my lyme first made it self comfortable. Now, my first break from symptoms was when started Biaxin. Things went back to normal, including sleep! It was great..but after 5 months, it's not working, and my bowels are more slow, especially the small bowels..the right side just doesn't move anything to the left.
I've just started Digestive Enzymes and it's having a bit of an effect, which I'm very grateful for. But after trying Milk of Mg, Kristolose, Citracel, Mg citrate drinks (none worked very well like in the past)...the only option I have to keep things cleared, is H2O enemas and colonics...very tiring on the body, strips away any good bacteria and nutrients and expensive.
So I'm wondering could there be something else...other viruses/parasites hidden causing problems I'm not aware of? Has anyone done such a colon cleansing and can it done without having the bowels functioning at normal capacity? Suggestions on how to go about this and what to look for?
Grateful for ANY ideas...tried to use the search engine, but I it must be having sympathy pains, cuz it wasn't moving either!

Magnesium oxide- I take one with each meal
Vit c- I take 1g with each meal
You may want to try slowly increasing either/both of these.

My son had/has the same problem. It isn't "normal" constipation.
He has tried everything with little success. He started IV antibiotics on May 20th and it seems to be helping.
One of his 1st symptoms (in 1999) was stomach pain. He had biopsies taken from his stomach and the GI doctor couldn't find anything wrong. In 2001, Dr. Jones had the samples retested and all were positive for Lyme.
Dr. C recommended magnesium and vitamin C and neither worked for him. His PCP gave him a script for Miralax right before he started IV and he hasn't used it yet. He also tried Zelnorm and it didn't help.
Hi Janet--I will give this a try. I already Vit C and Mg, but perhaps not enough?
Heatherkiss Lymetoo: Hi gals--This was suggested as a good "bulk builder" to me, and I've done the Citracel..plus alot of fiber in diet. As far as the gallbladder..I had a HIDA scan (think that's what it was) where they check the gallbladder, liver and pancrease (sp/) for stones...none found. Is that the test you mean Tu-tu?
PAB--I think this isn't a normal constipation, just like your son. It isn't block or compacted feeling at all...it just stays in the upper right area. My guess is something going on in the small intestines or something not producing the right bile?
I really curious of what Dr. Jones said about this to you PAB...Perhaps if my samples from last year are still available,I could get them tested...but then what? This has being going on for a year now.. and it's really started to scare me as I know the toxins and such are just being reaborded into my system. When this happens, my neuro stuff gets increasing more difficult.
Thanks all for being there, I'm feeling pretty depressed and down. I just need to get a handle on this, but have ran out of ideas...Dr. H in California just suggested a brand of colon cleansing...but I know right after that, it will be just as slow.
Thanks everyone.... JavaBeing

Hi Ms. Tutu--Funny you mentioned the enzymes..my naturalpath just started me on SIMILASE, which is to be a complete digestive enzyme. It's worked a little (slight bowel funciton)...but after another couple of days, my upper right bowels were still not moving.
I noticed my cogitive abilities have gone down so fast and altering, and I was just felt so sick..like I had food poisoning (nausous, chills, head pressure and pains, sore stomach, back, whole stomach felt like it was acidic). Last three days I had to stay with parents cause I was so weak and ill I couldn't get my own water. Finally, I had to do another water enema.
A while later, I noticed I wasn't feeling as feverish, my head cleared abit, the nausea had eased up and the chills had stopped and of course, I had abit more appetite. But the only thing I can eat now is liquid wrey protien drinks, oatmeal, soup, scrambled eggs...stuff like that. I just know I'm gonna have to go through this all again in another few days.
Today my urine was darker..not sure if it's the new med I started 4 days ago (Levaquin) or another problem due to this. I talked to Dr. H in Calif and he said to stop all meds. Which may help some head stuff, but something tells me my organs are just extremely compromise as well as my digestive tract. I don't know how to get it all back into sync.
What Marnie and GiGi say on balancing the system out make total sense, but I'm more sick now than before...that my family is about to go back to Kaiser Hosp. which I know isn't going to know a thing about absorbtion issues or how things are so off kilter.
My naturalpath here is willing to assist in anyway, but lyme and the damage it does by stomping the body's healing methods, is way beyond her.
Hi lymeloco--I've tried prune juice in the past (i think it was from another post of yours! ) I didn't see "anything" encouraging...but then again, that was one the things that made me think, this ain't constipation..this is my body yelling for help that it was overwhelmed.
Though ya know, I might just try some again, it's liquid, has nutrients AND will not have negative consequence on the bowels.
Thanks all for hanging in here with me...my folks are both pastors, and have alot of prayer support and they keep reminding me "this too shall pass"...I am trying to hold onto that. This not be able to eat without meds...or sleep without meds is really getting hard to balance. I know my answer is out there somewhere...just gotta find it.
Sorry for the length...I think my words have been "backed-up" too from this past week. Now, if I could only eat like I can type....

If you were looking for a mini-cleansing or pre-cleansing, here's something you can do every day.
Squeeze one whole lemon into a glass and fill it with 10 oz. water. Drink it all at once.
Brush your teeth immediately to protect them from the acid.

I've been dealing with chronic constipation over the years... tried all the usual remedies with little success. FINALLY just in the past month i've found some relief. I found out I'm gluten intolerant and since giving it up, i've noticed a big difference. It took about a month of being gluten-free before i noticed anything, but then the change was dramatic.
I had previously tested negative for gluten intolerance using a blood test. But my doctor suggested I send in a stool sample to EnteroLab (specialized lab), and sure enough it was positive. She has found that many of her Lyme patients are also gluten intolerant. It can cause an autoimmune response damaging your small intestines and obviously wreak havoc.
Don't know if you've already looked into this, but wanted to share my recent experience. -s.

Just a thought, but my daughter also has a HUGE problem with constipation and she used to drink this stuff called Natures Tea, sold by Enrich. I found this webpage so I am ordering some ASAP. I took some once too as I was experiencing some problems. Make sure the day after you take it you are by a bathroom!!! Try it, it isn't all that expensive and I KNOW it works and it is all natural!!
Good Luck
