Only been on abx for 6 wks w/Dr.D. His advice is to eat a regular diet, no supplements. I follow the Weight Watchers program (not alyways sucessfully, but always trying) If I have no yeast infection is this okay? Should I try to go lower carb? Yeast diet is very drastic to me and as a food oriented person I am not sure I could do it even if I should.

I didn't follow it for 2+ years and it seems that a systemic yeast infection may have been holding me back from feeling well (and knowing if I kicked the Lyme out). I'm now doing what I would say is a 95-98% yeast diet. I have been eating some brown rice, beans and a few other items that are not recommended for early use in the diet.
Today is day FOUR of my diet and so far it's the best yet! I feel somewhat close to normal although still tired and still some shortness of breath.
If you don't follow the yeast diet, at least try kicking all the refined sugars out of your current diet.

We've had a few responders here say they never followed the diet and got away with it. [did they really? I don't know.]
However, most find that the yeast will eventually catch up with them and it can mimic Lyme symptoms....So you may be having more yeast symptoms than Lyme symptoms. How will you know the difference??
If you want to get well....keep the yeast at bay.
I hope you're at least taking Nystatin every day and acidophilus?? [I am not a dr!]

How much nystatin should one take? I'm taking 4 tablets a day (500 K tablets)...it just seems like a lot, but I don't know what to compare it to...

I don't follow the yeast diet, but I do avoid sugars and anything carbonated.
I take liquid Nystatin 3 times a day (swish & swallow) and acidophilus with my handful of daily suppliments.
Interestingly, the Nystatin in tablet form was not an "accepted formulation" for my insurance but the same stuff in liquid form was covered 100% (You got me on that one). I also had terrible problems with mouth sores so the liquid stuff was what I really needed anyway.
My primary problem with yeast was extremely painful bloating. I've pretty much gotten used to not eating anything with sugar in it or on it. I haven't had a can of pop in 6 months.

I am not proud to say this, but I don't follow a yeast free diet.
Sugar and carbs are my favorite food groups.
I take a lot of acidophilus. This is all my LLMD has insisted on.

I think it depends, in part, on where you are on the yeast spectrum before you start abx. If you're starting off without a yeast problem, the regimen your doc suggests may work fine. But a huge number of people have undetected yeast problems even before they take abx. Like Moi.
I was as good as can be at one time, and freed myself of yeast using diflucan, Nystatin, garlic, and Oregano oil and that completely horrible diet which I can't sustain for long. But I managed for long enough.
Since then, I don't eat junk food or a lot of unrefined sugar, but I'm not a strict anti-yeast diet by any means. I do take a lot of good probiotics.
All was well until this summer. I've been pigging out on fruits -- man, this has been a fantastic cherry season--and I'm having a little yeast whoopsie.
So Lymetoo is right, darn her. If you're on abx (and even if you're not) and you get too far into the sugary stuff, even the good sugary stuff produced by Mother Nature herself, probiotics alone won't save you.
It's back to oregano oil, garlic, and (sob) cutting out fruit etc. for me.
"It's illegal, it's immoral, or it gives you yeast" is now my mantra.
Life is really very cruel.

My thoughts exactly! Very, very hard to give up all this fresh fruit, and just this noon, we had the most delicious fresh pineapple, and I ate and ate.
I am also taking Nystatin, Diflucan and garlic and lots and lots of probiotics, but put the Oregano Oil aside for now as I can only stand it on occasion, but still I wonder about the yeast...this is so hard...
Of course, sugar is out as is too many carbs, but I do drink Diet Rite made with no caffine and only Splenda sometimes.
Sometimes, the substitute of favorite foods can be just as bad, but still it makes me feel like I'm doing, at least, something.
I'm not on a strict anti-yeast diet, either, but Lymetoo's right. It will catch up to us. Thank goodness for Diflucan.

I haven't followed a yeast diet, and I haven't had any problems.
I eat sweets sometime, but not in excess! I've been on antibiotics for five years, and so far, so good!
I do take refrigerated probiotics. Before the lyme diagnosis, I had yeast all the time. I find this unusal that I haven't since being on them.
You need to do what is best for you! Listen to your body, you'll know! Good Luck, Lymeloco

Hey! Two people said I'm right! Oh happy day!! heheehehee....I'm off to see the wizard!!
Just think if you could get off abx and feel great! You'll never know when the Lyme is gone if you have a raging yeast problem and aren't addressing it. It all runs together since the symptoms are very similar.
I had a yeast problem before my Lyme diagnosis. In fact, that's how I got dxd with Lyme [long story] Since I'd had undxd Lyme for many years, my immune system was shot and the yeast took over.
I've noticed over the years that my pain is WAY less when the yeast is under control. It can sneak up on you and you may not even realize you have a problem.
I'm not recommending that anyone should get off abx, but if you've been treating Lyme for 2 yrs or so, then maybe you should address the yeast bigtime and see how you feel!
