Hello everyone, OK I know if we put our heads together we can make sense out of this: I went to my neuro today (she has had both parents & daughter with Lymes so I figured so knows best)any way back to me.I had an MRI of the brain, came back normal,my neuro tells me that the 1 month of I.V.Rocephin & 1 month of oral Doxycycline was more then enough to treat my Lymes (I've been battleing with seizures & all the other wonderful symptoms for 4 years & longer)I'm on Tegretol 3 times a day/Namenda 2 times a day/Armour Thyroid 1 a day. Please someone tell me if she (neuro) knows her stuff so I can Have full confidance in her. Robin

I would suggest you read the article at www.canlyme.com/donta.html I believe the doctor states that the longer one has lyme, the longer it takes to clear it with antibiotics.

In my case, I had dormant lyme in my system, which was activated by a steroid injection to the knee.

I've had lyme symptoms for a year and a half. A doctor at Columbia University who evaluated me has recommended 6 weeks of IV antibiotics to start...

The doctor who is treating me is thinking it will be more like 3 months of IVs followed by many months of orals until my symptoms have been gone for 2-3 months.

A good website where you can find some articles dealing with IVs is www.columbia-lyme.org

I'm not a doctor, but I would wonder at the "one month IV, one month orals" should take care of lyme that has been entrenched for 4 years.

Just my 2 cents.

Hello Somerset
I can understand your situation completely- I'm in the same boat-I've had neuro symptoms and seizures since 99 and then woke up in Jan. with a swollen knee=OOps lyme disease
Keeping in mind though I did have seizures as a child which did stop-is it lyme or is it memorex?

Anyway I take carbatrol and topamax for the seizures-

I had doxycycline capsule treatment about 4 weeks-no good-carbatrol incombatability-
Then Rocephin I.V. 6 weeks
my infectious diseases doctor wants to do a lumbar puncture next-I think to be sure the spinal fluid is clear of "the little buggers"- He also mentioned the possibility of another round of rocephin for 9 weeks- ewww

I have an appointment with a new neurologist in a couple of weeks- I guess I sort of rambled on but just wanted to let you know there's someone out here in the same boat- Right here rooting for you-

Please read my hubby's very long 4 plus year history at http://flash.lyment.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/035062.html

MRI's have remained unchanged (no new lesions) since 120 grams IV Rocephin over 1 year ago but symptoms continue.

Be sure to rule out coinfections if you ever hope to get well.

Unless you were caught within a few weeks of a tick bite it will take more than that to clear the Lyme.
