Hi Guys/Gals!

Gaining weight since I got LD. My LLMD just diagnosed hypothyroidism and prescribed Synthroid. (Anybody else on this?) Said it would decrease weight and stop water retention. Anybody else found this to be true?
Oh yeah...she said my hypo is " subtle" abd though my test results were "normal" they are outside of "her range of normal." Can any body explain? ''Preciation!

When my thyroid levals were in normal range I stopped gaining weight. It won't make you lose weight unless your dose is too high.

You're gonna have to lose weight the old fashioned way thru exersize and diet.

Good Luck to you. Hope you feel better.

Heather

It is not uncommon for lymies to have thyroid problems. My levels are borderline and the tests (surprise) even for thryroid are not 100% accurate.

It is a clinical diagnosis and I started synthroid 6 weeks ago. I gained 2 lbs, so we uped the dose.

I have gained 50 lbs in 18 months, I force myself to get mild exercise. Hang in there, we cannot expect to do a step class everyday. Even a walk from the bed to the couch can be tough on some days.

Hang in there, a lot of posts on thyroid stuff if you search. I was worried about it as well.

I've been hypothyroid for 15 years and have had Lyme for 1. I did lose a few pounds after starting synthroid. About 4 months ago my thyroid got worse, due to the Lyme, or all the abx, who knows. My dose was increased and I lost a few pounds again. I also just have mild hypothyroidism, that is good news for you, it will be easier to regulate.

I'm borderline hypothryoid and on synthroid. I double checked with my GP before starting and she concurred.

Synthroid will increase your metabolism. But, if you are borderline, then you will probably remain on a small dose. It's not that it is a diet drug, but that the hypothryoid itself will slow your metabolish, so the synthroid brings it back to "normal."

I didn't lose weight, but I began eating a lot more when I started the synthroid and didn't gain weight. Then I kind of settled in.

Getting on thyroid meds simply stopped the outrageous weight gain (40 lb. in 3 mos.).

Haven't been able to lose an ounce.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's which is an autoimmune form of hypothyroidism. Previous tests showed normal thyroid levels (although I don't think I was tested in the last few years) but apparently it's low enough for me to be hypo and the tests for the autoimmune things (sorry, my brain is fried this morning) showed that I have Hashimoto's. My LLMD put me on Armour thyroid (without telling me that it's made from animal thyroid gland) but I'm going to ask to be put on synthetic thyroid instead because I don't want to be on a medication made from animals (I'm a semi-vegetarian).

Sorry that's not exactly helpful. I didn't lose weight when I started the Armour and I haven't noticed any difference in my energy or anything since starting it but maybe that will happen eventually when the Lyme is dealt with also.
