I currently found out Ican't do ssri's do to a sodium condition. Started 5HTP and theanine for stress today. Off the lexapro for a week now due to salt. ssri's cause hyponutremia. I have to get a medic alert bracelet or necklace to alert in case of accident...Does anyone know how long it takes for 6 mos of lexapro to leave your system,6 mos of rocephin to leave - am in hell the past few 2 mos, but calmer about it, (xanax has something to do with it, or the lexapro taking my feeling away from me). I lessened the xanax and am taking theanine and fish omega 3 (thanks Aunt y) 5 htp to replace the seratonin for depression. I don't know if it's the depression that I have no feeling, the lexapro, previously zoloft, off of everything except sodium tabs, toprol (heart), levoxyl (thyroid) and now these 2 supplements. Am on minocycline for the lyme and have to be tested for penicillin allergy to see if she could put me on high doses of amoxy. I feel like I opened a can of worms by starting treatmetn. It had to be done, but there is an infitite cycle. My son has been off meds for 2 mos, no symptoms, took him for eye exam today. Has a brown cell in cornea to indicate iritis. Have to take him back next month to see if spot is there or more. It's weird, but now after treatment, iritis comes out to show autoimmune disease or lyme? God, give us all peace that we deserve. He's 10 years old.

Anyone with any idea of how long this stuff takes to leave your system, (rocephin and lexapro).

Aunty, thanks for all your e-mails and knowing I am not alone in this, when your mind feels so alone.

Cigi

Hi cigi, (dear aunt)

Rocephin stays in your system for 24 hours. I'm pretty sure and accurate about this. With oral abx, doctors tell you to take it every 12 hours, because it leaves your system every 12 hours, so you have to keep putting it back into your body at the right time, whereas Rocephin is not an oral abx. Therefore, it lasts longer than 12 hours. It's IV, so it migrates deeper into your tissues and your muscles, and therefore it takes longer to dissolve. Notice that doctors don't tell you to take Rocephin at a certain time. They just tell you to take it everyday, either once or twice a day, but they don't care about what time you take it, as long as you take it. IV abx last longer than oral abx, that's a true statement. In addition, one dose of Rocephin is equivalent to 30 doses of Amoxocillin. I don't know about the other drug you were refering to. probably that one lasts about 24 hours as well.

Hope this helps. Remember...I'm not a doctor, just a poor patient trying to help sicker patients. We're all living in "Lyme City". :D

Cigi,

I would call your pharmacy, or a pharmacy connected to a hospital. Pharmacist are more informed than Docs.{usually}

Have you ever tried St. Johns Wort, Kava, Kava, Samee or valerian?

Just wondering.

I would try anything that calms you mind and body. Mag, Chamille etc.

Good Luck

I would add COQ10 to your list of supplements. Yes, it is expensive especially at 400mg per day like my hubby takes. You need to take an antioxidant to help with all the free radicals generated by Lyme. Also fish oil and the other good fats, especially flax oil have been found to help in anxiety and depression.

It took me two years to get hubby off Celexa and Zyprexa, but he feels so much better mentally -- he takes COQ10, flax oil, SAMe ,magnesium, 5HTP and theanine all. Also Valerian or passionflower or catnip for sleep as needed.

He adjusts the doses and switches things around depending on how moody he is. At least now he is not suicidal like on the drugs and no more psych lock-ups.

Cigi,

Glad to see you are posting your concerns.

In my experience, it takes a while for the lexapro to leave the brain. If your phase II liver detox is not sufficient, then it can be recirculated in your bile.

You may ask your doctor to prescribe supplements to aide phsae II liver detox. If you want I can send you some links.

While taking the 5HTP, please be watchful dor signs of serotonin syndrome. THis can be excessive sweating and chills, mania like actions, muscle jerking.

Have you experienced any of the electric like sensations in te head or extremeties?

Wjat dose of the theanine are you taking, I may add this to my schedule as I am under so much stress.

Are you able to sleep at night?? My daughter was up all night and sleeps all day she has a severe ear infection.what else can happen??

Hi Aunt y,

I am taking 200 theanine and 200 5 htp. The depression is so bad. Ihave no interest in my family, friends, things I loved are nothing. Am on 200 mino, so maybe herxing too. Identity loss...I'm not shaking as much, taking xanax also (about 1 1/2 mg a day) psych said I can mix, but concerned about the sodium thing. Called nephrologist and naturalist. Want my blood monitored. I am so sorry for my son's sake. He's 10 - I try to fakae my life, but he's smart. Signed him up for ceramics classes for summer, and he has a few things keeping him busy, but watching mom deteriorate must be killing him. He says you have me, and I smile and hug, and feel nothing. I have alot of making up to do if I get back to me. I've never been selfish, like a snap out of it kind of thing, I can't help this. I try, cook, drive, but feel like I'm garbage. Always had confidence, I'll get over this attitude, but this feels like I'm beat, only I involved other lives other than my own in it. He has a birthday party today and a graduation. I feel like I don't know these people and I know one since 2nd grade. My cousin says fake it till you make it, but this is beyond - I will continue to try so I don't ruin any thing more. My mom died, I wish she was here. My family means nothing to me and they are my world. Who know what causes what? Lyme, meds, herxes, co-infections, mental, physical stuff - everyone lives in confusion that starts this. It has to be done, but it's so much pain to do. Thanks for your concern and e-mails. I hope your daughter does better. All the info on the anti-depressants. Maybe the 5 htp will work. I didn't even think of this mind stuff relating to mino herx, just me cause of hospital and ocd that I have (anxiety and depression). No electric shocks in head or things like that, just in a state of mind that never existed in me before.

Thanks and God bless,

Cigi

I have had iritis [brown cell] too for many years. My dr said it's like a mole. Has never bothered me, so I hope your son will be perfectly OK.

cigi,

If possible,I would seek out a doctor who knows how to have people taper-down, or people who have successfully tapered off the ssri's, or who know a protocol(s) for doing so.

good luck

Thank you for your honesty. I've found personally that while useful at times, the "Fake it til you make it" approach can be counter-productive, incongruent and self-abusive.

Your attitude sounds quite clear, in that you're able to detach yourself from the depression and understand that it's not you. Maybe if you just share honestly how you're feeling with your friends and family, it will take less energy. Sometimes this opens the door for them to be more honest and understanding too. Of course some people can't deal with it (maybe their own fear of illness and mortality), but you're better off without them in your life anyway.

SAMEe seems to be helping me with the depression; for what it's worth a psychiatrist told me that 1600 mg/day is recommended for depression. The Heel Detox Kit may be helping too: www.heel.com

What is your sodium condition called, and how was that diagnosed?

Cigi,

Sounds like you and your body have been through hell. Now I am not a doctor, but as I ease off the medicines I am not sure I would add anything else. Let your body cleansed first and then start over. Hiker

I was fortunate never to go on SSRIs (blech blech blech) because I found that Celebrex and theanine combined were helpful for Lymemoods. Celebrex does have a questionable reputation, so if you decide to try it, research it first.

One nice thing about getting better, slowly, from Lyme, is seeing that all this crappy mood stuff really is just a side effect of the illness. And when you can exercise again, which you will, you will feel even better.

Also, I ended up having two co-infections. Don't know your story, but make sure you catch those.
